FAA Flight Service changes

I agree, and you would think that would be the case, but some facilities have a policy of not giving clearances over the phone. Sometimes their incoming lines are not recorded properly, and that's a problem for them. Others have a staffing issue with it.

I worked at a facility (fairly newly built about ten years ago) that didn't have any of the phone lines recorded. Only things that were recorded were the radio frequencies and the interfacility landlines that were routed into the communications panel. Pilots called the tower or tracon telephone numbers and whoever answered the telephone issued the clearance.

Are the facilities you've noticed that don't issue clearances like this, all east coast?
