FAA Dispatcher License. Jeppesen or Sheffield?

Hey guys, I'm currently a TRC for British Airways working in Male', Maldives. At 23, I've looked up to further my career in aircraft dispatching. Been searching for schools the past month now and the top 2 in the US seems to be Jeppesen and Sheffield, according to reviews anyway.

Jeppesen seems much more contemporary to what I've seen of Sheffield's, but that's not everything surely.
Reading Sheffield's website, all it had were testimonials or positive reviews, and some gashing up of other dispatcher schools too, which was quite unprofessional in the sense. (Not sure whether to believe this or that)
The course is somewhat the same but I was generally wondering what the main positives can be to pick one from another?

Also do companies hiring dispatchers look for which school you went to when hiring, 'cos I've seen a lot of those among the reviews? (Is Sheffield really THAT good?)

Anyway any help or tips are appreciated, thank you.

Both are good schools from what anyone will tell you so the choice between the two is really going to come down to individual preference. The short answer to

Is yes but realistically they're only going to care (and marginally, at that) if you went to some mom & pop shop that they've never heard of AND you seem to not know your stuff. Otherwise the license you get in the mail is going to be the same for a Sheff grad as it will be for a Jepp grad, "a License to Learn." There you'll be able to see some people progress from prospective DXers all the way to the bottom of somebody's seniority list. Other threads on this forum also have some perspectives on school selection so you'll realistically benefit most from doing the research yourself and looking into what fits YOU and YOUR situation best.

Where do you plan to work (or look for work?) once you have your FAA Dx Cert? Do you have a US passport?
Unless you have a nice track to a job, I would worry more about the post-graduate job search than which school to attend.
Seriously.

Thanks for that. Sounds like it's upto me.. Jeppesen just seems a bit more modern and fancy than that of Sheffield's but there are various other points to consider too yeah. Thanks.

I still plan to start up work here in the Maldives, get a couple of years or so under my belt and then look for work elsewhere. That's the plan anyway.

Bottom line, you will hear good and bad about both. You are correct in saying they are probably the top 2 that ppl consider when looking to get their ticket.
I wouldn't choose one over the other based on which one looks fancy, choose which one works best for you. Location/cost/coarse length. Will you be doing the online coarse etc etc.

Just my .02

There are Jepp and Sheffield grads here. Bottom line is we all got an education, earned our dispatch license, and got jobs. Mission accomplished!

Don't judge a book by its cover...they are both great schools. I went to Jepp and had a great experience there! But choose the one that best fits your needs. You'll accomplish your goal at either one if you put the time and effort into it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the pep and good luck to you! :)

That's a way to put it, all about perspective isn't it? Thanks for that. :)

Wow no one for camp Sheffield yet.

Bottom line, go there. The lack of modern you speak of is actually intentional. You learn on a Boeing 727 which is a new dispatcher's nightmare. The airplane itself presents many dispatching challenges that they use in the curriculum. Also their way of teaching really gets you looking for the small details like where a word is placed.

In the long run it is that attention to detail that makes the difference as dispatcher. Nothing against Jepps, but Sheffield is #1 for a reason, cockiness and all.

If you do choose Sheffield, I would start studying for the ADX at least two months ahead of time. The course is really intense and you won't have time to study for the ADX. Intense meaning I saw a grown man cry one day during week 3 (Hell Week) of the course. I had the edge of my seat feeling for 37 days..Ha! The day I passed my Practical Exam at Sheffield was one of the best feelings I have ever experienced on any level of education!

Same goes for Jepp... Either take the written ahead of time (be sure you can get credit from the course cost) or be ready to take it when you get there. One less thing to worry about!
