"Acey" intends to start a self branded ULCC concept.
I don't think it is that weird actually, I think it is a market that is currently flying under the radar a little. Reno is a growing tech city with Tesla, Samsung, Google and others setting up shop in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center, which is the largest industrial park in the world. There were plans to overhaul the Silver Springs (KSPZ) airport into big enough cargo focused airfield just to support the industrial center so they didn't have to deal with RNO, not sure if that is still the plan though. There is no shortage of tourism stuff to work with either. I think they see an opportunity to jump on a new emerging market that can cater to tourism as well as some business travelers. It will be interesting to see if the demand actually supports it though, Reno is sort of a Southwest/Alaska dominated airport and a lot of locals like those carriers.Remember the first time Expressjet struck out on their own? The toothpaste airplanes? pepperidge farms remembers.
I actually flew on them back then, It was very nice being on the west coast because they flew to cities that you actually WANTED to go to.
This time around however, I don't think it's gonna turn out that well. RNO is a weird place to hub at. I really do wish everyone involved the very best however.
