ExpressJet flying for Delta or Branded?

I was just wondering if anybody flies in LAX for Delta or ONT for Branded and how you like it compared to CAL? Thinking about leaving IAH and going to LAX or ONT.

Thanks for your help.

That totally depends. What's your seniority relative to a late November 2004 hire?

Seriously, though. For me, driving to work is the greatest thing in the world. It really gets me through a 4-day knowing that I don't have to commute home at the end of it.

However, it's very different out here, at least on the Branded side. I'm proud to be flying our own passengers. That, and the general dislike of the CAL system in general have made it good.

The downside is though, the CAL system runs on autopilot. Things that you didn't think about in the CAL system run rampant out here. While the operation is no longer new, it still runs like it is on somedays. There are very high turnovers at our stations. You're constantly working with new personnel. A lot don't know how to do their jobs and others just don't care. My blood pressure automatically goes up about 10% when I touch down in MSY. Everyone needs some poking and prodding out here. We don't have CCS which makes everything a little more difficult. PMRs are a giant pain and trip trading is next to non-existent.

Maybe I'm a little burnt out. Maybe I take things to seriously. The bottom line is I care about our customers and some days I feel like I'm the only one that does.

Having said that, though. It's exciting. The flying is beyond awesome. I love flying out west. If you can put up with the minor headaches, come on out. That is if you're junior to a November 2004 hire.:D

I'm an ONT based FO and I have to echo ERfly. The flying is fantastic and for the most part the crews are great to fly with.

Only come over to branded if you truly believe in the concept and are willing to put in a little bit of effort for a lot of personal return... as said above it's a bit more work than COEX but you really feel as though you've accomplished something while working through some of the problems over here.

It really is a different world than COEX. The pax are much more appreciative and happy and the crews really do make every effort to take care of them.

I've been based in EWR/IAH/SAT and now ONT... and of them all... I've enjoyed branded the most. It makes me feel like I'm doing something more than just getting people from A to B... instead, I feel like I have a hand in what could possibly be the future of my company. It actually makes me want to do a better job.

All that said... I do have several buddies who work on the Delta side and they've said over and over again how much they enjoy it over there. Their commutability just increased significantly on the JAN bid and the overnights are pretty awesome too... in addition to that, you get the DAL bennies too.

I just finished my last trip in IAH before heading out to ONT in a few days... and even though it was nice getting back to MEX and Canada and some of the other NE locations... I'm still totally pumped about getting back to branded.

Can't wait for my 20+ hour Harrah's Reno overnight! ;)

Well said. It seems most everbody tries a little harder because we all want to see branded succeed.

:yeahthat: Too bad you can't upload CrewTrac/ PBS or whatever electronic schedule you have. Or, am I just wetarded and missing something?
That's how I do it. I'ts a download from our etrip and . . ."presto" . . . it's in there. I'm going to hook up with Matt and figure out ExJets version to see if there is a better way. I'll advise:)

Cool... let me know what you guys come up with and I'll experiment a bit more on my end too. I've added you, Matt, John, & a few others so far.

and Dale... Congrats on the upgrade my friend! Thought I'd chime in on that here since I am WAY late on the original thread. ;)

I like branded for three primary reasons:

1. I live within an hour's drive of a base.

2. No SRJ(E135) B-Scale to deal with ($$$$)

3. No congested airports/ATC delays

It feels good to be flying with the colors of the company that actually employees with you, but that kind of wears off after awhile. Personally I try to give the job my all regardless of what the paint outside says, so branded really didn't change how I went about doing this job.

Things I miss about COEX:

1. Variety of destinations and international flying (branded I seem to end up in one of about 10-12 different cities for every overnight).

2. Better maintenance infrastructure and more experienced ground crews

3. At least in Houston, much more variety in the lines, more open time, and generally more flexibility in your schedule.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does "branded" mean?
ExpressJet's own "brand"... ie: ExpressJet Airlines.

Since our company flies for more than one carrier... we essentially have 3 divisions:
  • ExpressJet Airlines D.B.A. (Doing Business As) Continental Express
    greenLogo-contExpress.gif
  • ExpressJet Airlines D.B.A. Delta Connection
    greenLogo-deltaConnect.gif
  • ExpressJet Airlines
    greenLogo-expressJet.gif
We are currently also doing flying for Frontier on a temp basis and have done JetBlue flying in the past as well. Those are other D.B.A.'s.

So... when folks ask us where we work... instead of saying ExpressJet D.B.A. ExpressJet... we just say "branded" when referring to our own operations.
