Expressjet & ALPA Reach Tentative Concessionary Agreement-6%

Re: Expressjet & ALPA Reach Tentative Concessionary Agreemen

It's not a matter of the analysis being flawed. It's a matter of pilots not stepping in to balance the checkbook every time management does something stupid. Management agreed to a CPA that was unworkable, and they knew it was unworkable when they signed it. They ass-umed that you would accept concessions to make up for their stupid decision. And now you're going to reward them for this stupid decision by giving them their concessions? Sorry, but pilots should not be paying for management's stupid decisions out of their own pockets. Force management to balance their checkbook some other way. Balancing it on the backs of the pilots is simply not acceptable. If management can't afford to pay rates that are already woefully below what they should be, then the company doesn't deserve to be in business.

So why should *I* as an american taxpayer have to pay for the mistakes our government makes? or other people make?

I had no part in this 700 billion dollar fiasco. I live within my means, didn't buy a house I had no business being in, and I'm not a mortgage lender looking to make a quick buck. Yet all of us will now pay for the mistake made by people/businesses.

Don't give me the apples to orange stuff either. People pay for other's mistakes daily. Sometimes life sucks, and you know what, I deal with it. I don't think anyone wishes ill on the Xjet pilot group, but their company is faced with difficult times and they'll do what they need to survive.

Two words:

Vested Interest.

Some have it, some don't.

Re: Expressjet & ALPA Reach Tentative Concessionary Agreemen

Well I know your answer so I'll rephrase.
Is ALPA national EVER wrong?

Yes, quite frequently. The best MECs are the ones that know when to listen to National, and when not to. However, it's my understanding that ALPA National didn't make a recommendation in this case.

Re: Expressjet & ALPA Reach Tentative Concessionary Agreemen

Who is "ALPA?" Are you referring to the local reps? Or are you referring to ALPA National?

ALPA National IS your local pilots. The ALPA Board of Directors is made up of Local Reps. The Executive Board is made up of elected local LINE pilots that fly. Only the three elected national officers are OFF line but still came from our ranks, and the Administrator if you want to include that.

People use the words ALPA "NATIONAL" like its some sore of secret clan of non pilot masterminds. Call your local rep if you have an issue, they are a member of the board of directors. Call your Executive Vice President if you have a problem, They interpret the policy the BoD sets. Call one of your MEC officers if you want to know about your local council or MEC budget, position, ect... Get involved with whats going on and you will see that there arent that many secrets, there are just volunteers doing thier best.

Maybe they could use some help?

Re: Expressjet & ALPA Reach Tentative Concessionary Agreemen

Paul, were you directing that at me? If so, you obviously haven't read too many of my posts. :) I've been involved for quite some time.

I was directing that to anyone that might read the post and not know your past, since its a public forum, we have to assume that most will not know. You have a large number of new folks come here to learn. Just trying to work with the law of primacy :-)

But since you mentioned it, what is your past?

Very true. Good call.

But since you mentioned it, what is your past?

I served on several MEC committees before being elected LEC Sec-Treasurer, eventually becoming Vice-Chair. I was also SPC Chairman and an organizer for National.

Re: Expressjet & ALPA Reach Tentative Concessionary Agreemen

For us non-airline types, what is "SPC?" For that matter, how about reviewing MEC and LEC again as well. Shoot, might as well add in IACP while we're at it.

Re: Expressjet & ALPA Reach Tentative Concessionary Agreemen

Sorry. I forget that a lot of this is "jargon" for most people. :)

SPC - Strategic Planning Committee; becomes the Strike Preparation Committee closer to the end game; basically, it's where the militant types do their volunteering :)

MEC - Master Executive Council; the main governing ALPA body at each individual airline

LEC - Local Executive Council; the governing body at each domicile; the LEC reps make up the MEC, along with 3 executive officers elected by the LEC reps

IACP - International Association of Continental Pilots; this was the independent union at CAL after Lorenzo broke ALPA in '85 and before the CAL pilots returned to ALPA

Re: Expressjet & ALPA Reach Tentative Concessionary Agreemen

I don't really know what all was said in this thread, and don't really care at this point. Good luck to all the ExpressJetters!! (and of course everybody facing tough times and tough calls in this downturn!)
