ERAU Medical report Problems

I open my mailbox and i get this letter from ERAU DAB health services and to my dismay i get a letter from the university physician stating that i have a hold on my flight courses due to a condition and/or medication inconsistent with FARs. I called and we determined it was my notation of asthma medications i have been prescribed on my medical report form. Now i explained to the woman on the phone that i was diagnosed with asthma a while back, maybe during middle school, and even then it was extremely mild and even now i use my inhaler at most once a year. She said i should speak with the doctor, Dr. Waikins, and provide as much documentation as possible. I also indicated that i have had a medical certificate, second class, and one thing it noted was my asthma, which the medical examiner noted to be of insignificant hindrance to my activities. I am also made an appointment with, not only renew my medical certificate and get a first class one, my regular physician and reevaluate my asthma and hopefully produce a letter from him.

Becoming a pilot has always been a dream of mine, im sure you can all sympathize with that, but is it over?! I mean, if i had gone to an FBO they would never know and it only came out with the school's medical report form only becuase i thought it important for them to know my medical history. After this is all done im going to call the doctor and see if i can lif the hold on my classes. I got so scared b/c the letter said that i should contact the doctor if i anticipate to enroll in flight in the future. FUTURE?! i want to fly in the fall. im nervous and im going to do everything to fix this.

any advice/words of wisdom/encouragement?

If they keep pulling this crap about your asthema, go Aerospace studies and fly at an FBO. The only reason (that I can think of) that asthema can DQ your medical is if the medication you take is restricted or extreme. If the AME says you're fine, then Riddle SHOULD take his word for it. If you already have an FAA medical, then I really don't see why they're doing this unless the campus pharmacy needs some extra $$$.

I went through the same logic. I fidured the same as you if they are really bothered by it, head to ann FBO and switch majors. thanks.

Hey if it makes you feel any better I had a student that got a super restricted FIRST class medical even though he had a milk alergy that puts him in the hospital if he eats like 2 drops of anything dairy. If you need any other information I can get you the number of Dr. Ritter here in Prescott. He sits on the AME Board in OKC and I know he could hook somethin up for ya. Don't worry about Riddle though...they're just protecting their name with all that medical stuff.

Ritter is great. I swear that guy would give a first class to a dead horse if it needed to fly. He'll hook you up, but you need to fly out to AZ to get a medical, or maybe just get him on the phone to yell at whoever he needs to yell at. Good luck getting it sorted out, but as with all medicals, you need some patience with the paperwork if you ever mark anyone of the boxes down.

HA ha Ritter!!! I remember that ole coot! You're right about that dead horse comment.

I think I was there for all of 4 minutes and bam....2nd class med cert and student license.

I hope I can find one as "good" around here as Dr. Ritter.

Oh yeah....almost forgot....advice/encouragement.

Don't worry Riddle is just being it's overly Riddle-self. It's just your "trailer" into the wonderful world consumed by the "Riddle-Runaround".

They'll let you fly. There's nothing in the FARs saying you can't and an AME already checked you out. You're good to go....just beotch them out a bit/talk to advisors/supervisors and stuff. It'll be fine.

Don't worry....dealing with Riddle is just as productive as this sometimes....
