It looks like the band thing is about to pay off for me. The band Im in has been talking with Epic/Sony about signing a contract. It is a development deal which means before we get paid well the record must generate a following and sales, nothing gold record status but enough to go full speed. We did already sign a no content with Sony which means we cannot talk or breath around another record label for up to 90 days. There is an advance on the table which is enough money for us to survive on from the time we start recording until an initial tour, maybe about 6 months worth. We have been re-asured our bills will be taken care of as long as we are with the label. We were in a situation like this before with another label but they changed management and we got swept under the table and never heard from them again, it was a mess. This time it seems pretty cut and dry. We have hired a lawyer who calls me at least 10 times a day so I think we are safe with him. He has worked with some pretty big name bands who made it out of Vegas. We are about 24 hours from the finalizing the contract. We are negotiating on control over who produces the record for us. We have someone in mind (secret). So far so good on royalties, we pay the recording cap which is a lot, we wont even come close to using all that cash. I cant believe Im about to jump into this head first once again but this is a chance of a lifetime. Our friends are like "aww man why a major label, go with an indie label, your gonna get screwed" Thats why we have this lawyer. Not to mention an indie label cannot pay our bills while we are recording and on the road. Anyway, I will know with 100% tomorrow afternoon if its a done deal or back to the table.
