New pay $20.37/hr, goodluck! Looks like this might be a split position between a Dispatcher and Aircraft Router? Might be good experience anyway

Dispatcher and equipment coordinator are separate positions under the dispatch contract. If they are or have been junior assigning coordinators thats probably why its in the job posting.

Envoy gets notice of how many we are taking so I would expect that they are hiring around the number that they are going to lose. Probably 5 to 7ish.

Looking for a bit of advice here... I'm currently at AA mainline in the IOC and got my license in December. Originally the plan was to hold out in my current position and transfer into DX when the opportunity arises. Get my name out there, Shadow, etc.

However, I understand it's extremely competitive internal or not and knowing Flight Keys experience is a question during the interview process.

So my question, is does it make sense to leave mainline to gain the experience at Envoy and then come back after a year or so? Or sit tight and build connections in the IOC and try to go over that way?

As always thank you for the advice!

probably, if you wish to stay at American, sticking it out in the IOC and waiting for internal. I have heard American doesn’t like to pull from their fully owned subsidiaries just like most other companies (Delta with Endeavor, for instance) so unless Envoy has some kind of guarantee/high preference to pull from Envoy I would familiarize myself with FlightKeys while becoming ridiculously knowledgeable about everything else to be the strongest internal candidate you can be.

The AA seniority list has a substantial amount of Envoy hires. There is no reluctance to hire from
there.

Oh thats actually pretty cool then. Wouldn’t be a bad idea in that case.

IDK what OP does for AA, but also worth considering the pay cut they may take. 20.37/hr in Dallas sounds rough.

One thing to keep in mind, (and no this is not everyone’s experience) is there was an internal here for years who had multiple references, but continued to be passed up for dispatch for some reason. They finally gave up and left when they were offered dispatch at another legacy. I also have heard of certain departments not wanting to lose or spare people to give to dispatch. However AA seems to suck up Envoy left and right, and there has been a good amount of them in every class. They had an entire class of only Envoy last year as well. They prefer them because they use the same software as us and are already here in DFW. Most of the internals I know have been at American for 5-10+ years. I don’t think I personally know any that were only here for 1-2, however they hired people from Envoy that only had 6 months dispatch experience or maybe 1 year. There is also a good chunk of DX from Skywest and Republic here, and although not as many there are some from PSA and Piedmont. The other benefit of going to Envoy and getting your 121 experience is you would have that on your résumé for other legacies as well if you wanted. But if American is your absolute goal Envoy is definitely not a bad way to go. Not sure what the pay cut would be for you though, as someone else said.

Just make sure if you do leave you are on good terms with AA and make sure you stay on good terms with Envoy as well. One thing about regionals, but I suppose it could happen internally too, is power tripping abounds at times. I have seen many nice people or good dispatchers get passed up because they weren’t a part of the cool kid’s clique, or they said one wrong thing to one wrong person and now they weren’t getting the greenlight to proceed to the legacy they wanted. Not just talking about Envoy here, I’ve seen and heard of this at a few regionals. I think it’s crap but unfortunately that’s how it goes. I do think future jobs should be looking at a person‘s overall roles, experiences, and multiple references rather than just going off the word of one person who might’ve had a personal vendetta or dislike for someone. Anyway do what you feel is best. But Envoy is definitely not a bad route and may be faster. Just make sure you’re on great terms. And again, it would also give that 121 experience for multiple airlines down the road, not just AA.

Be very careful thinking they take everyone from Envoy. AA dispatchers get their kids hired on there and some have only spent 6 months there and got hired at AA. I guess dispatching for the length of a hockey season teaches you all you need to know. AA seems to favor the dispatcher kids that are friendly with GK the hiring manager. He has been playing this game for years. No honor whatsoever. They have passed up excellent dispatchers for a lot that were horrible. The very last place you want to be is stuck at Envoy with their horrible pay and horrible management that bullies dispatchers to send everything so N1 can increase his completion factor numbers.

Yes you are right, this is a very competitive position. The IOC alone probably has more than 50 people with certificates trying to make it into Dispatch. Many internals had to wait years to get hired for reasons not known by all. But one thing I can tell you from personal experience, while you wait as an internal, is to make yourself be different that the rest. What I mean is to show interest in the position. Talk to senior dispatchers, spend a few hours sitting with us seeing how everything works, ask questions, bring us donuts jk. No matter what you do, always try to separate yourself from others. Trust me, most people will notice your interest and that helps a lot! Dispatch can be taught, good attitudes can't.

It could be that they are holding off for a couple weeks to see exactly how many will be leaving. Someone in the AA thread said they are taking "a bunch of Envoys" but they're in the process of making offers so the number may not be firm yet, and will dictate how many new people Envoy needs from this group.
