Does anyone know what the "B" and the "R" stand for in the Garrett TFE731-5BR ? The books from FSI and Simuflight don't say.

Frank- TFE-731-5BR

TFE- Turbo Fan engine
731 is original bypass ratio, -5 variant
B for fuel heat
and R for TR's -Thrust Reversers-

Some of the other models didn't have all the nice options you got there haha. The only reason I know this is cause someone asked in initial a few months back on the 800. You on the H800 or the Falc9?

TFE731-2-2B: 3,500 lb (15.6 kN) thrust
TFE731-5BR1H: 4,660 lb (20.7 kN) thrust

Thanks. I'm very part time on a 800A but most of my time is in the XP. Just getting ready for any picky questions on a possible job interview.

Id be shocked if you get that as a interview question- but you never know haha. Good Luck let me know if you'd like anything else answered.

to the OP... why wouldn't it be just listed as "APR" then if/so for the Power Reserve...? Valid Question though..

I don't know, that's to the folks at Garrett I guess.

I fly a Hawker with TFE731-3R-1H's, and I was told the R meant APR and the H was for Hawker. Could be BS, I never dug into it any deeper.

I take it your not on the 800 then? or you guys change em out?

Ya i don't think anyone KNOWS this answer now- I thought I had it nailed-- If we fail an interview because of this question- we can get together and discuss over a few brews! ha!

Yeah, I seriously doubt anyone would ever be asked this question in an interview, let alone not get a job because they don't know the answer.

I fly 700's and a 800. Our 800 doesn't have thrust reversers either, and it has 731-5R-1H's. I only put down the 700's motor number cause that is the one that the person who told me the 'R' meant APR was talking about.

I am in recurrent at Simuflite this week. We were told the R stands for power reserve aka APR.

Good luck on the interview.
