Endorsement Type - Instrument written

If I give a student his endorsement for his IRA written, How long is that endorsement valid for? And where can I find the reg stating its duration?

Any help would be appreciated.

Your not going to find reg for that.

I refer to the Airman Knowledge Test Guides but they don't state any expiration on the endorsement:

http://www.faa.gov/training_testing/testing/airmen/test_guides/

Also nothing in 61-65 or the FARs that I know of.The recommended endorsement from 61-65 also does not include an expiration date limitation. Feel free to add a limitation if you are concerned.

The only endorsement expiration date I can think of is the 60 days for the 8710 form.

That's the 3 hours of flight training within the previous 2 calendar months, correct?

That endorsement certifies that the hours were flown before the time of the endorsement. From what I remember, the practical test date must also be completed within 60 days after date of recommendation (8710 signing).

I'll go back and see where I found that from.

FAA examiner handbook:
"Ensure that the flight instructor has signed an endorsement no more than 60 days before the application was submitted"

I still have found no expiration date for taking a knowledge test.

Except, with the recent regulatory changes, it should read within the previous 2 calendar months.

So I can endorse someone to take the test and they can come back 10 years later to take it?

Do you mean Proctor? :)

How many retakes of a written exam are allowed? (I guess as many as you like cause CATS/Lasergrade get their $150 each time).

I recently endorsed an ATP applicant for a re-test on the written, I think it used to be you had to go to the FSDO to speak to an Inspector who would review your logbook then give you permission to take the test ONCE. Things sure have changed, I got to exercise my (C)GI certificate though...

FAIL :tease:

The things I miss. I think spell check suggested that.

But yeah, retests have no limit. There are limitations on the number of days you have to wait though (30), and you have to find an instructor to give you remedial training sign you off again.

Then you just take the endorsement back to the protractor.

Yeh, the retests waiting time is for certain ones, like A&P.

I signed the front of the fail cert (he got a 68) signifying I had given extra instruction and found him competent.

Most of the questions I get though are about Europeans getting FAA ATPs which isn't an easy section of regulations/applications to follow, but I'm learning...
