Displaced... again.
Well, it's been 'official' for a couple of weeks, but since I am actually starting soon, I am very happy to announce that I am going to be employed as a pilot once again. (Third airline... I hope that third time's the charm...)
I accepted a class date with USA Jet out of Willow Run in Michigan as a DC-9 First Officer.
As with any job, it is going to present it's own unique challenges. For instance, the 'on demand' charter business is naturally schedule-less so you are always on reserve. But, on the flip side, you never know where you are going and can have some very interesting flying adventures all over the North American continent.
It's a 'step up' career-wise for me being assigned to the DC-9. I am really looking forward to it.
Since knowing that I was to be furloughed (and then being furloughed) I sent out countless resumes. I attended a job fair. I earned a type rating through the WIA. I have interviewed with Compass, Air Wisconsin, USA Jet, and Avantair. I also turned down an interview with Qatar because I couldn't afford the travel to Miami for the interview.
It's been stressful being unemployed, but I am very happy with the way that things have turned out. (And, as usual JC has been a great resource throughout the job search/hiring process.)
On another note, I just recently celebrated my third anniversary with my wife. I secretly surprised her with a silhouette that was hand cut by an awesome artist that we know - Karl Johnson. (And in a completely shameless plug, you should check out his site -cutarts dot com- and order something because, trust me, you will get huge amounts of brownie points from your S.O., it literally was the neatest and most romantic thing that I have gotten for my wife since I met her... and every piece is an original piece, and very retro-cool - I'm talking 1800's cool.)
There's a picture of it on his blog. (I attached pics to this thread also - the pics I gave him from our beach wedding and the final piece)
My wife has always believed that I cannot surprise her with anything. This time I surprised her... and she cried. (...in a good way) It was a good anniversary.
