Embry Riddle

This is directed more at ERAU alumni.

1) Did you enjoy the school? Was the training as good as the hype?

2) Do most people that attend get internships and interveiws?

3) How fast do ERAU alumni get hired? And do most get good jobs at one point in time?

4) And just how prestigious is Embry Riddle in the aviation world?

Thanks in advance!

That would be me.

"Did you enjoy the school? Was the training as good as the hype?"

Worth the hype? That's easy....no way. Did I enjoy it. Well, I hate to admit it, but looking back on it, I guess I did. Had a blast in a lot of ways. Didn't learn anything that means squat or that helped me in my future career. The standards in the flight training were slightly higher than my little flight school but not to the point that it offset the cost or really made a hill of beans worth of difference in my future. At the same time, I was 19-21 years old. Drinking age was 18 in AZ at the time. I was a third year transfer student with a CFI and got hooked up with the AHP frat crew and the flight team crew. I was homesick as crap (totally misplaced emotion, by the way, just gut it out) but I still can't say I didn't enjoy myself. At the time I was there, I thought it sucked, but looking back on it, it was a pretty good time. I know that makes no sense. Just wish I had it to do over.

"Do most people that attend get internships and interveiws?"

Sorry, I'm not sure. Back in the day, I can say no. I graduated during a downturn in pilot jobs and a bunch of guys went to MDC in Long Beach as customer service reps. MDC was offering new grads pretty good money. It wasn't flying, though, and I think most never got back into the flying biz.

"How fast do ERAU alumni get hired? And do most get good jobs at one point in time?"

I got a good job but I wouldn't attribute one iota of that to ERAU other than I paid them to be able to check the "I have a degree" box. How fast? Maybe slightly higher than the next guy, based on networking and internships. Now, ask me if I think those things are worth the money? NO, I don't think so...

Hours/Ratings/Experience....that's key in this biz. Riddle might give you a slight leg up but it ain't worth the time/effort/money, in my book.

"And just how prestigious is Embry Riddle in the aviation world?"

What gave you that idea? You're new, so I'll go easy.....

Nobody cares if you went to Riddle. Really, nobody cares. It's not at all prestigious. Where did you get that idea, anyways?

Sorry to burst your bubble. You came to the right place. Welcome to Jetcareers.

Did that.
1) Did you enjoy the school? Was the training as good as the hype?
I did enjoy my time there. Grant it we didn't have a football team so it was no Ohio State but we had fun. The other sports at Riddle although not extremely popular with the student body are very competitive in their own right. National championships are the norm. Anyways yeah you can have fun. Training was good. Not sure what the current "hype" is but its on par to better then any training you can get. MX however is outstanding. I don't think anyone can argue for a better maintaince department in the country. I didn't join a frat..Don's AHP(• patrol) wasn't for me lol :sarcasm:. I did join the flight team which was fun to an extent but also way too into flying which everyone needs a break from sometime.
2) Do most people that attend get internships and interveiws?
If you want an internship and you have a pulse you can usually get one. Interviews right out of school are not really a possibility due to only coming out with 200 hours or so.
3) How fast do ERAU alumni get hired? And do most get good jobs at one point in time?
With XJet hiring at 600 anyone can get hired within a year. Alot of my friends went to there or Eagle. All except one of my flight instructors held out until they could goto CHQ.
4) And just how prestigious is Embry Riddle in the aviation world?
The folks at my company I think recoginzed that it's a good education but also recognized that ERAU is kinda "not like the real world" flight training. Lets just say non of your Aero Sci classes are geared toward 135 Freight Dawgin. I mean one of your senior classes is 744 simulator based. Kinda unrealistic that any alumni would remember anything from that class by the time they get close to a 747. I was the "Riddle guy" in training. Training I think was a little easier because you don't get turbine engine courses at mom and pop's flight school and the such but those classes you can get any at uni.

Its a good school with good training. Is it worth the money probably not. I went there for Aerospace Engineering and switched to Aero Sci my sophmore year. So in my case it was worth it. I'm pretty confident if I went to UF or OSU I probably would be in a cubicle now and not flying.
