Eff you SWA

I mean, I support what you're doing here, but SWA? Is this them?

Modernization will happen. It's already happened in other countries, and it's working. It's different and will bring change, but what we have today is inefficient & expensive. And with a looming mass exodus of controllers, what alternative is there?

Our ATCers are badasses. The system has issues, the staffing has issues, but overall how many delays are the fault of ... whatever nonsense that is above? "ATC Delays" seem to be mostly caused by lack of physical space, and arrival sequencing, as near as I can tell... not "lack of smartphone technology" or "traveling from one tower to another," whatever the f— that means.

This is politics, and it's bad politics.

I agree modernization needs to and will happen. I do not agree privatization is the answer, especially at the hands of Shuster and his airline lobbyist girlfriend. If this email was a well thought out and accurate argument for privatization, it would be whatever, but this chit is just a middle finger waved at us ATC. Its like if I started telling people 90% of delays are because pilots are too scared to fly through a wee little thunderstorm.

That's a good analogy but I don't see how this email is blaming the controllers specifically. In fact I don't think anyone is blaming the controllers. It's a more general 'system' issue, albeit one that the Feds have created themselves. Typical government move, create a problem then swoop in and fix it.

Lots of parties at blame, first and foremost are the airlines themselves for using 9000 RJs.

Well I guess it must be ignorance.

Hey - thanks for the helping hand as I wander in apparent ignorance like I missed some social que about why such a question leads you to believe that is ignorance. I guess you cannot divulge your trade secrets. At least rebut so anyone can see how you might even be right or wrong.

The airline that flies the 737 exclusively, thinks ATC is what slows them down? :)

Anyway...

The DNS information behind ontimeflights.com traces back to someone paying nationbuilder.com to make a tightly controlled online presence for it.

All you'll find for contact info or anything on Citizens for On Time Flights, is on their "experts" page you'll find five Democrats.

On other pages, a bunch of vague white papers, and a Q&A that includes infomatiom that whoever is paying for the site wants a Federally-mandated non-profit to run ATC traffic.

On the News page you get multiple Trump quotes, and a lone combined Fox/ABC station in Bangor, Maine who quoted the local State group spokesperson, Cara McCormick.

McCormick is a hired gun for Smart Campaigns, see smartcampaignsca.com/principals

"Cara manages our East Coast operations. For the last 11 election cycles, she has provided research ... [long list of Democrats here, Cantwell, Kerry, Biden, Kaine, Deval Patrick...] then a sudden change to "currently working on leveling the playing field for independent candidates..." and no mention of working any campaigns after 2012.

The reporter in Bangor is either so new they haven't posted her Bio yet on their website, or so far down the reporter pool they never will. Looks young.

Gets exciting assignments like covering the local ice cream parlor in Surrey, and the annual "How to stay safe with fireworks" spot.

Even weirder, the "Pilot" quoted in the video interview is named "Mike Willey" and it would appear he is the former President of Emerson Electric's Analytic Instrument Division and flies a Rans in retirement. FB page seems like a normal enough guy, but weird he'd talk for a camera with the political chick. No pro pilot background whatsoever. Lists "CPT-CE" in the Army prior to that which if I recall, "CE" is the old designation for a Crew Chief? May have that wrong.

So what's SWA get out of this? That's the weird question. Supporting a disorganized political non-profit to run ATC with, and their babble about "using GPS technology" in ATC?

"Push you representative for ATC reform. They're using 1960s technology!"

Very weird. Very.

If you think SWA is the only place that thinks this then I got some beach side land in AZ to sell you!

Also. ATC is old and antiquated. This is not a secret. Acting like a 12 yr old and saying "no more short cuts for you pilots1!1!1" however isn't any better. [emoji849]

Once we get that sweet NextGen installed and everybody is flying GPS Direct everywhere delays will be a thing of the past.

Oh wait, that's not how any of this works. These people act like Radar tracking is the only reason they're not just flying a straight line LAX-MIA at Mach .85 the entire way. There's not enough runways, and airlines schedule more flights into hub airports at the same time than can realistically be accommodated without some kind of delay.

People love to complain. Is the ATC system perfect? No. There are things that can be improved and be made more efficient for sure. Is giving the countries NAS away to a congressman's airline lobbyist girlfriend to be privatized the answer? I highly doubt it.
Personally it feels like all this push for "modernization" is just a very sly attempt to take away the pay and retirement benefits of a highly paid federal workforce.
