EDV LGA wing strike

“The wing of a passenger plane landing at LaGuardia International Airport in New York struck the runway surface Sunday as it attempted a “go-around” because of an unstable approach, officials said.

There were no injuries, and the plane landed safely after the left wing struck the runway surface at around 10:10 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration and an airport spokesperson said Monday”

I seen this on the news at the gym and you would’ve thought it was some major accident. Don’t get me wrong, wing strike is a wing strike but it’s not like it’s never happened before.

I’m just curious as to how long everything aviation related is going to be scrutinized before it stops being the hottest thing in the news.

I wonder if some nuance was lost in the coverage. I can see the FAA stating that Endeavor disclosed the wing strike occurred during a go-around subsequent to an unstable approach. Without such attribution, kinda seems like an odd disclosure.

Didn't the tower query them after the G/A? Something along the lines of "seeing sparks" from the wing. The former bird app is being torn asunder since the pilot who responded to the tower was female; the hate is strong with some of these idiots.

I’m picking nits but I’m used to the FAA and NTSB being somewhat guarded in their public statements. Would expect something like, the incident is under investigation but the crew initiated a go-around and later reported the go-around was due to an unstable approach”.

It is a very politically charged time and unfortunately a lot of misunderstandings about aviation are at the center of it all.

Wow, that was quick. I guess we’re not waiting for investigations any more.

I guess we could have some fun in the next few years with it. Anytime you go around or declare an emergency, scream “Oh. My. GOD, it’s a Stegosaurus” over the hot mic.

DOT: “A prehistoric dinosaur was the cause of a go around today at the Detroit Metro Wayne airport. When I was on the Real World Boston, I had an argument with Puck about whether or not dinosaurs ever existed so we’re excited about this new evidence”

People can be quite irrational, and dumb.

Did you hear a Delta 767 going to the US had to turn back around to Europe? Now anything and everything will make the news regarding aviation.

Yeah, I can see the FAA echoing things in the public domain, but this just seems odd to me. Maybe the reporter left a few things out .

No.

Despite running an aviation website, the airline business is the last thing on my mind on my days off.

I read some DM comments. It sucks, but this is the social media environment of 2025. I saw several comments about “unmanned flights.” Turns out, Endeavor on their social media page had a picture of an all female crew and a message that they were proud of their unmanned flight. Along with several female-only pictures of pilots.

The Toronto accident seems to be female, and this LGA sounds like a male CA taking over control, and a female FO taking the PM/radio role. Now, did their sex have anything to do with the incident/accident? Absolutely not. But you know how social media ruins society, and there are people who will grab the “unmanned flight” advertisements on the company pages and then use that against them to score their own ratings, clicks, likes and subscribes.

I don’t get why the airlines have to be so try-hard. It’s not the 1950s or 60s. This is 2025. Everyone knows there are female pilots and that females can do this job. Stop making it such a big deal.
