Eagle Denying Jumpseats to CHQ

Heard that the first denial occured the other day. Eagle please realize your fight isn't with us and its with AMR. Most of our group doesn't want to see a CHQ base in ORD and supports you and your fight with AMR.

Hey, not cool Eagle Brothers and Sisters. CHQ pilots are not the ones doing this, it is between AMR and CHQ management. Even the union has voiced this comment to us.

Geez....Jumpseats get denied from time to time.

Maybe it happened, maybe it didn't...who knows the circumstances. Could have been a weight thing and then the taco pilot gets in a tizzy. Could have been a million different things.

People get so worked up over the possibility of a JS getting denied...it happens. Move on.

I know the guy who said it happened and he wasn't that pissed off and he isn't the type to make things up. I think fellow 145 drivers know all about the weight restrictions and how the 145 jumpseat is only usable if the stars align. I think it was more of "hey hows it going guys, they got a seat in back for me but thought Id show you my credentials since Im jumpseating" "Oh CHQ huh, no seat for you!" :)

Walmart....Oh yeah RAH....:sarcasm:

True though it is not the individual's fault who is trying to get home.

ok, hold on. Was this CHQ pilot denied due to weight restriction/higher priority jumpseater or was it because he was a CHQ pilot?

Common...it's gotta be a pretty bad day not to be able to get a JSer on. I can't remember the last time I couldn't take one...

If he denied him for being a taco pilot...it's messed up but c'est la vie. I'd suggest your friend contact your js coordinator so that they can have a js coordinator pow-wow. A one-time thing in my mind is still anecdotal, if you can provide a couple more instances (outside of Capt Friendly Eagle pilot) then I'd say you guys have a legitimate beef.

Not cool at all. Had a TSA guy whenever they were doing American Connection flying and CA and I welcomed him aboard just like a fellow Eagle. It's a management issue, CHQ pilots are just doing the flying their company is putting in their bidlines. The Eagle MEC is protesting the ORD flying going to CHQ which is the way to go. CHQ would do the same as well if on the other side I'm sure, but there is no place to deny a CHQ pilot a jumpseat.

Yes, jumpseats sometimes do get denied for whatever reason but I think it is just wrong. It's a commuting/travel tool that is a benefit. We should all drop the hostility with one another and work to make a stronger union to prevent management from whipsawing, etc.

Eagle doesnt have the same W&B software that you guys use. Plus you guys have modded all of your -LRs for higher weights. When I was in BGR our gate was right next to Eagle's, they seemed to be almost as restricted as your old -ERs. The one weird thing about how Eagle does W&B is that it seemed to be controlled by the gate agent, and they would not send down a JSer "just to check". At least that was how thing were in '08 when they jumped ship from the airport.

All the 145's at Eagle are now modded for the higher weights. You are right the pilots have almost nothing to do with the W&B.

Ok..those two things are huge.
1. The weight mod which all our LRs have (I think we have only like 20ERs out of 200ac) almost guarantees getting everyone on in all cases except with really distant alternates.

2. Our pilots run the W&B. Dispatch and gate agents have nothing to do with it. I can see what needs to be done to get an extra body on. A gate agent can't.

A big problem is a lot of gate agents don't know how to use the W&B program. I would say most of the time when when we are weight restricted, I can get everyone on by just using the program the right way.

Only some of ours have to Mod so if you don't have it and there is an alternate chances are the JS is worthless.

Eagle and Republic Holdings peeps, keep this as a personal thing, please and don't make it pointless vendetta for people you don't know. If you start denying jumpseats to hurt a company or it's pilots, you're doing the work of management and not getting paid for it.

I read that he made it to the cockpit and the captain (basically said no). The crew has no control over the seats in the back, so either the commuter was confused or the plane was full.

Srsly?

The gate agents are doing the W&B for you guys?

(srs question - couldn't pick up the sarcasm if it was there)

It's actually really easy. We send in the fuel weight, they get the total passenger and bag count and punch it into a program. Then we get an ACARS message with the results. We check it to make sure it matches what we've got on the FMS, etc, and make sure the real counts match.

It won't let them do things that go out of limits. It's actually very handy.

The computer does it using the seating arrangement, FOB, baggage, runway in use and maybe wind. The gate agents often have the wrong runway inputed for example that restricts the allowable weight. The crew get a printout via ACARS and can see all the variables inputed and then call in corrections if needed. Personnally, I enjoyed not having to calculate W/B every leg.

2 Points:

First off- fact or rumor? This may in fact just be a vicious rumor, and frankly doesn't help at all if it is.

Second- .. most of your group doesn't want a CHQ base in ORD... is that the official word of your representation/union? If that's the case, I'm sure Eagle ALPA would love to hear that directly from them. If they haven't, perhaps you could urge them in that direction.

(Ultimately, you're right, and I do agree- there's no reason why we pilots have to be ugly towards each other. We're all just trying to earn a living.)
