Dumb Student Pilot Question

Hi guys, I'm supposed to find what 3 documents a student pilot must have with them on a solo flight, and after scouring over 61.89 (I think that's the FAR that deals with student pilots, but my FAR/AIM is currently in another state, so I can't exactly confirm that), I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I would think that it would be Medical/Student Pilot Cert, Logbook with Solo Endorsement, and what else? And are the first two correct? And, where is this requirement written? Thanks.

Thanks guys.

(2) A student pilot must carry the following items in the aircraft on all solo cross-country flights as evidence of the required authorized instructor clearances and endorsements—
(i) Pilot logbook;
(ii) Student pilot certificate; and
(iii) Any other record required by this section.
Bolded is not very helpful ;)

If I read it right, I need a valid photo ID, such as driver's license or SIDA badge?

The regulation changed in late 2009, so you may be looking at an older version of the regulation. Here is the current regulation. The "short" answer is a current state or federal issued photo identification.

§ 61.3Requirement for certificates, ratings, and authorizations.

(a) Pilot certificate. No person may serve asa required pilot flight crewmember of a civil aircraft of the United States,unless that person--

(1) Has a pilot certificate or special purposepilot authorization issued under this part in that person's physical possessionor readily accessible in the aircraft when exercising the privileges of thatpilot certificate or authorization. However, when the aircraft is operatedwithin a foreign country, a pilot license issued by that country may be used;and

(2) Has aphoto identification that is in that person's physical possession or readilyaccessible in the aircraft when exercising the privileges of that pilotcertificate or authorization. The photo identification must be a:

(i) Driver's license issued by a State, theDistrict of Columbia, or territory or possession of the United States;

(ii)Government identification card issued by the Federal government, a State, theDistrict of Columbia, or a territory or possession of the United States;

(iii) U.S.Armed Forces' identification card;

(iv)Official passport;

(v)Credential that authorizes unescorted access to a security identificationdisplay area at an airport regulated under 49 CFR part 1542; or

(vi) Otherform of identification that the Administrator finds acceptable.

Photo ID
Pilot License (Or logbook if your a student pilot and are doing any activity that requires an endorsement)
Medical

Thats the typical "3 things" they are looking for.

Bing Bing Bing, that's the answer. The logbook is required if you dont have a license and are operating on endorsements. So any endorsement required for flight is required to be readily accessible. Now, specifically those endorsements don't have to be in a logbook, but that's where we all put them, since you have to keep them always with the logs of the flights operated under those endorsements.

Just beware, don't tick off your instructor. We can put any requirements on those endorsements we want. I had a buddy that made a student wear a clown nose on his second solo. In fairness the student just wanted to show off for his gf when he wasn't really ready, so it was an interesting compromise.
