Duchess Time Building Question

I'm thinking about coming down to Ari-Ben and do the multi time building program. I read that Ari-Ben has eight Duchesses? I'm guessing the twins are spread pretty thin between training and time building. Are there any coflicts in scheduling a Duchess?

We have recently purchased 3 more duchesses which will bring the total to 12. The new duchesses should be online soon and equipped with Garmin 430's. If you have any further questions please email me at -

I don't know the answer to that question but I can make a 99.9999999% accurate guess and say no. Who needs a GPS for training anyway? If the thing goes out and you don't know how to fly via the instruments then you're screwed. I have never used a GPS yet.

Now.... not to say that I don't want to learn to use one. But I think it's best that there's only a few planes with them so you can learn the GPS after perfecting flying via the instruments(just my opinion).

In fact... To prove my point. I flew to Missouro last week in a MD80. When I got off the plane I said hi to the pilots and took a look in the cockpit. It was all decked out old school. No glass, no GPS. I was a bit surprized because the Gulfstream 41 that I was in earlier was pimped out with all the new stuff.

Anyway... it's just my opinion that we should learn on the instruments. It's easy as hell to look at a map and know where you are. But we should all know exactly where we are without it.

And... There are a few other planes at Aviator that already have GPS in them. We usually don't use the GPS though. At least I don't.

Don't be too scared of that techonlogy, because VOR's go out WAY more often than GPS does. If you really want I can probably dig up the numbers for you, I did a project on it freshman year of college. The only reason that GPS is going to replace VOR's as the primary navigation dealie in our airspace system is because it has a higher uptime than VOR's do.

I didn't mean to make it sound like I'm scared of it or that I wouldn't like to have some planes with GPS in them. I just think that people put too much emphasis on GPS when picking a place to train.

It's easy to say in a couple sentences when it's not 2am. hahaha.

It's alright, I think too many people put too much emphasis on VOR's when picking a place to train. And people said that about NDB's too. Technology will continue to replace itself if history is any indicator of how the future will be, so while learning the bare bones approach to flying, understanding that you're going to have to be a techno wiz too is important.
