Man gets prison for tantrum on plane

A federal judge Thursday sentenced Paul Henry Boritzer of New York to five months in prison and a $20,000 fine for disrupting a 2009 JetBlue flight to New Orleans after flight attendants refused to serve him any more alcohol.

"You've never apologized to the lady you called a 'b----' and threatened to have her job," Barbier told Boritzer during a half-hour sentencing hearing Thursday.

The jury convicted Boritzer of four federal crimes, including interfering with a flight crew and impersonating a federal official, after hearing Boritzer call all the witnesses liars, including a woman who testified on his behalf.

Having started drinking before he boarded the JetBlue flight from New York on Feb. 20, 2009, Boritzer threw a drunken tantrum when a flight attendant refused to serve him more drinks. He refused to take his seat and told three flight attendants that he was a federal air marshal, flashing his pilot's license, which has since been revoked.
What a piece of work. :insane:

I tossed a drunk off a flight about a month ago, and got an attitude from the gate agent over it. ^This story is why we do things like that.

Did you kindly inform the gate agent who was responsible for the safety of the flight?

There are %10 in every crowd, but sometimes I think that there are more %10ers in the CSA land.

Oh yeah, we played the "count the stripes" game as a result (figuratively speaking, of course). I don't like having to pull rank, but it's necessary at times. Some of these agents feel as though they're responsible for everything that happens on the ground, and then when they close the door I only take over then. That may be true for aircraft security (GSC vs. ISC), but PIC authority doesn't stop when the door opens.

Anyway, a good GSC needs to be able to spot this behavior so that it doesn't escalate to this. No "well, he has a connection to make," or "he's not rowdy." The GSC has a responsibility to ensure the security of the airplane before boarding. It shouldn't have to get to the PIC.

Did you see the show "Airline"?

Those Gate'ies were all about it!

I was about to mention that. Seems like every episode they'd be dealing with at least one drunk, all of whom would blame it on the airline.

His lawyer said he has ADD. What does that have to do with anything?

Good for you. It is often tough to take a stand on the side of safety and it is good to hear of people such as yourself, willing to take grief, to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

I guess he didn't realize that flight attendant certificates are printed on the same plastic as his "air marshal" credentials.
