Drivers License as a Pilots License?

Umm, I think they are refering to a current drivers license being used to ensure medical standards for Sport pilots license. Seems like an excellent idea - all around.

Yeah, I remember hearing about this. In the current conditions (ie. terrorism) I don't think that anybody with a drivers liscense will be able to fly. Yes, it is a lot less complex than a piper/cessna whatever but there is still lives and property on the ground and in the air that can be damaged and people that could be hurt or killed because someone thinks that they are "maverick"

It's a scary thought but unlikely in the near future.

Oh, I didn't really read the whole article. I don't like the idea considering a driver's license is much easier to obtain than a pilot's license. It could be falsificated or falsified?

I hate ultralights. At least the people that fly them. Every single one of them I've met fly like the idiots I encounter on the road. I know there or the very few who actually know what they are doing, where not to go, and have some concept of the physics of flight.

I dont mind when REAL planes buzz my house or jets for that matter. But since I've seen how these "sport pilots" fly It make me nervous having more idiots on the ground up in the air. Most of them dont have radios, and those that dont know the rules, for instance fly perpendicualar around 100 feet right over an approach runway at Quad City wich is class C airspace! Flychicaga might be able to back me up on that.

Sorry if I sound so negetive about it but I have had to many close calls with these guys being in places they shouldn't be.

As I look back now I didn't really read it right either. Still though. There are already one to many ultralights around here, I think there are 2.

I mean as long as they get some kind of instruction and they aren't morons then I dont care. But the few guys I've met will someday kill themselves and others on the ground.

Mate - I would read the article before you start posting. A drivers license is far more sophisticated, especially the old paper ones.
