DPS Helo Crash in Arizona

That's sad, these guys are awesome.

I don't think it was this particular helicopter, but I watched one of the DPS helos rescue a mountain biker who smashed his leg up at one of the places I ride a few months back. They grabbed him with the winch and took him away, it was pretty neat to watch them work.

That whole situation was a big mess up there with the active shooter and the long rifle he was employing and firing at buildings, civilians, and police. Still unknown why/how the 407 went down. Kingman / District 1 has had some hard luck. Kingman and Flagstaff still fly the 407, while Phoenix and Tucson fly the new 429.

I'm not sure if he was directly responsible for the helicopter crash, but the suspect in question was charged with two counts of first degree murder for the death of the troopers.

If he shot the helicopter down, that would be appropriate. If the crash was an accident of some kind, then that kind of doesn’t jive.

Same thing when the TV3 and TV15 helos had the midair collision in 2007 over 3rd Ave/Indian School while filming the vehicle chase on the ground. The suspect was initially charged with the deaths of the four TV news crew in the helos, but he can’t be held responsible for two helicopters impacting one another while they were positioning themselves around the sky with low SA and target fixation on the ground incident that was going on. So those charges were dropped.
