Doing my CFII in a multiengine

I am currently a cfi. If I do my CFII in a multi engine (PA-44), will I be limited to teaching instrument students in a multi engine or will I also have ASEL privileges. I am trying to do it in a multi since I will need 15 hrs PIC to go for me MEI after. I noticed that ATP flight school does a CFII/MEI program. With this program will I have only multi engine instrument instructor privileges or also single.

Might be wrong here, but if you're a CFI and you get your CFII, you can only teach in a single (even if you get your CFII in a multi). You cannot teach anything in a multi until you get your MEI.

It's the same thing when people ask what they can do with only a CFII (no CFI or MEI). The answer is they can teach instrument ground.
 
Yep. You can teach kinda. Just wouldn't be counted as the 40 hrs from a cfii rated in the class.
 
Aviatorx43 is correct. You cannot instruct in any aircraft for which you do not hold category and class on both pilot and flight instructor certificates. So if you do your CFII in a multi, you will only be able to instruct in single engine aircraft until you do MEI.

That is fine, I was just thinking of doing the CFII in the multi since I will need 15 hrs PIC in a multi for my MEI.
 
its listed as "instrument Airplane" on the certificate so Im pretty sure its category specific, so airplane. however as stated above you can only teach it in the classes that your certified for so SEL until you get the MEI. At least thats how i take it
 
The way I take it means you can give instruction as a CFII in a multi without a MEI, as long as you're not acting as PIC and have a Multi-Engine rating. You can give IPCs without an MEI, in a multi too.
 
OK, so, along these lines...

In the case of CFI and CFII obtained in SEL, with MEI obtained last. Instructor can now provide dual given for issuance of Instrument Airplane rating in a multi as multiengine category and class are now associated with CFI ticket. Regardless of whether the CFII checkride took place in the SEL. Right?

Makes perfect sense to me, though I've seen a few folks list 'MEII' as a rating, and that doesn't make sense.

One examiner told me that the MEI checkride was practically identical to the CMEL ride, but without the SE approaches and with the drag demo, etc. So, is there a distinction between an MEI who can and one who can't provide Instrument instruction in a multi?
 
If the MEI is also a CFII then he can. If not, then he cannot provide instrument training (unless it's the 3 hrs required for private).
 
Nothing against doing your CFII in a 'Nole, as the instrument rating on your CFI, like your pilot cert, is category only. HOWEVER, afterword you can only provide instruction in a single engine aircraft, until you get your MEI added on.
