DoD FLIP vs. AFD

Is there anything wrong with me using a current DoD FLIP (Flight information publication - equivalent to the AFD) instead of an AFD? I know it's only 4.20, but I already have ready access to current US FLIPs.

Same stuff, so long as you have current copies, but there are limitations you need to know about. Main difference is that the DOD FLIP is organized differently than in some areas than the civvie counterparts. For example, whereas the AFD has both IFR and VFR fields, for FLIP, they're divided into a IFR Supplement and a VFR Supplement. Add to that, the VFR supp doesn't have all VFR fields that the AFD does, just ones that the mil would fly into. So you're kind of limiting yourself in you only go with the FLIP. In my nav bag, for example, I carry both the IFR and VFR Supps, as well as an AFD due to the limitations of FLIP.

Good call, only have ready access to the IFR supplement. Will pick up a subscription to the AFD anyways.

Thanks MikeD. . . you rock!
