Diversity in the cockpit

No doubt there is more diversity in the cockpit than ever before . I live in New Orleans but I attened Ohio State University and on just about every trip home or back to Ohio, I've had a minority f/o on at least one leg of the trip (on Delta)...Once it was an African-American guy, two other times they were women, one time it was even Doug himself! This question is mainly to Doug, at Delta have you ever had a minority Captain? Weather it be a woman or a member of another race. It's just not that often I've seen a cockpit where at least 50% of the crew isn't white and male.

Yes.

that's cool, i would love to be on a flight with 2 women pilots or two African American pilots. just for a change of pace

I was on a Delta flight from New Orleans to ATL back in January and there was an African American Captain. As I walked past him on the way out I said "Hello Captain", we both smiled, and I was on my way to catch my flight to LGA. I felt a great sense of pride and informed my girlfriend how rare it was to see a brother in the left seat. I'm still keeping an eye out for Doug.

I know of a white female capt. for American Airlines.

I'm all for diversity hire young people too!

My aunt is an airline captain... on Cherokee 6s for a small charter airline, does that count?

Actually I believe that she was a captain on Britton Norman Islanders for a while too. That's not bad.

One of my buddies was a 727 F/E for Ryan and then moved over to the right seat, yes, she was Black.... Lost track of her, not sure what happened to her.

UPS had the first FAR121 African American female Captain. She was on the DC8. She left to be a full time mom or something a few years ago.

Diversity in the cockpit is so common place nowadays that it's not even an issue of any kind.

Patrice Clark-Washington! I know both her and her husband Ed (captain, AA)fairly well. But, of course, I haven't spoken to either in about five or six years.

I have to say... Alot of the older generation, doesnt believe that women should be pilots. They are ignorant, and its sad. You wouldnt believe the stories ive heard.... from older folks, waiting for another plane, even not using certain airlines becuase they have been on a plane with a woman pilot!!!! That is messed up.

Yup, and there are also folks that don't want to sit next to me in some restaraunts for a variety of reasons. Screw 'em!

Yep, that would be her. Never understood why she gave it up but I assumed she had had enough and wanted to be a full time mom or something.

Well, personally, I heard you had taken out a couple of eyes when you tossed those buffalo wing bones.

One of my all time favorite captains, for a variety of reasons, Fred Boone.

One of my friends was part of the first father/daughter cockpit team on a part 121 carrier.

And then they furloughed her.

Nope. Different airline. Back then, they did something on Discovery or TLC, don't remember which, about these two.

The uh, furloughed part should have given it away.

It really strikes me odd that a female is considered a minority, since they make up 52% of the world's population!

Somebody posted somewhere that 90% of the people in the world consider themselves "in the minority."

Kind of takes the value away from that word doesn't it?
