Dispatcher Hiring

No word on Delta although I assume it shouldn't be to long before they post another class. You better have three years solid dispatch experience before you apply with them as they won't even look at you otherwise. Answering no to that question immediately disqualifies you.

As for AA, guess is as good as mine. US just hired a class and I have heard possibly another one in short time.

DL is waiting on approval to hire, but with over 2/3's of the office nearing or over retirement age in the next 5 years there will be lots of opportunity. Latest rumors I've heard are a class in the September/October time frame. Do not know how many they look to hire but it should be significant. Last year they hired 25. If it's one class, I'd guess somewhere between 10-14 but it's anyone's guess.

If you want in at DL then yes, 3 dispatch / operations management years is mandatory. Or is it 10 years? :stir:
Then you go though the resume review. (Only 2 of the last 25 were only line dispatchers. The experience ranged from dispatch supervisors though OCC Managers)
Then you get the infamous testing battery. (Where 2/3's of the applicants fail)
The lucky 1/3 gets an interview.

Good Luck.

US Airways side is more likely to hire sooner than the AA side. AA still has another 6 months to go to get the two classes from late last year completely signed off. Unlikely to see a class at AA before that time. Management wants US Airways in DFW sometime next year. Unknown how many will decide not to make the move. No doubt that will create a good amount of hiring on the US side.

That being said, there are rumours floating around of the company offering buyouts for both sides. If the offer is good enough, expect a lot to take it. If that happens, hiring will result.

The neo-Delta family that's emerged from the NW/DL merger rekindled U.S. mainline aviation for me. That, and the age group coming up that's all due for retirement -- It seemed like a good time as any to get out of line ops... :) That being said, the mainline DL family (from the outside at least) looks like a rewarding -- hard to get into, but rewarding once hired -- experience.

We at Delta are waiting for final approval for class..planning 1 more class this year. I expect it to be posted within the next month or two.
There are about 60 dispatchers over 60 on our list, but that's out of well over 300. I can't wait for them to start leaving, but they just don't go! So far we only
know of 1-2 retirements for this year.
