Dispatch hiring question

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum (though I've been around just reading and absorbing information for the better part of a year... thought it was finally time to introduce myself), and will be heading to dispatch school at Jeppesen in June right after I finish my b.s. aviation & cti degree. (Honestly, though, I think dispatch is what I'd like to do long-term.)

I was wondering, in the mean time, is there anything I can/should be doing now that would help me land a job when I graduate? What is the hiring looking like this year? How long did it take you guys to find that first job when you graduated? Any thoughts or recommendations would be welcomed.

Congrats on your decision to go to dispatch school! Something that helped me before I even decided to go to school was make contacts locally and I was able to tour an SOC. I maintained contact with the director and ended up with an interview scheduled while only in my second week of DX school. I would highly recommend networking, touring if possible ad maintaining contact to help your chances of gaining employment quicker out of school. Good luck to you!

Welcome to the forum! I agree with what womanpilot has said. Network, network, network! Take advantage of the area you are located in and make some contacts.

Thanks for the welcome, it's good to be here. I am currently finishing school in north Texas... are there any SOCs in this area that you know of, other than Eagle? I'll also be spending a few breaks back home in Iowa... not a lot of aviation industry there, but are there any places you'd recommend I contact while I'm home? (In neighboring states, maybe?)

Thanks!!

A great website to use is indeed.com - you can single out what profession (Dispatcher, Flight Follower, etc) or even by Geographic location.
