Disney: The War Year

Okay, most of you know I'm about as anti-Disney as they come (at least in its current manifestation). However, I'm a big fan of the early stuff (ya know, the stuff that Walt actually did). I found this DVD set today called Disney On the Front Lines: The War Years, and it kinda blew me away. It's a collection of all the shorts the studio did during World War II, and there is a TON of aviation stuff in there. Several cartoons of Donald Duck in the Army constantly looking up at planes and whining, "I wanna fly!"

There's a lot of movie history fluff with Leonard Maltin, but the big star of the set is the rare "Victory Through Air Power" film. Aparently Walt was a big believer in the Army Air Corps. Some of the other stuff is the standard Mickey, Goofy, Donald, Pluto shorts, plus there are a lot of educational shorts the studio did. There are about four commissioned for the Canadian gov't, and there's a lot for the US (buy war bonds, conserve gas, support farmers, etc). Thought it was a good set with a lot (and I mean like almost EVERY short has a plane of some sort in it) of aviation stuff. If nothing else, the WWII history buffs would like it.

Best Buy. I kinda stumlbed onto in while walking through the children's section to get to sci-fi. It's in a big metal tin. It was marked $28.99, but rang up $24.99. Count that and the fact I just tested out of Microeconomics, and I'm having a pretty okay week.
