Differences in Flight Schools

Hello everyone,

I was wondering on what are the differences in the Part 61 and Part 121 (is it 121?) flight schools. What are they exactly and are there any advantages/disadvantages with each?

Thank you in advance

Forgot to answer your questions.

The main difference between 61 and 141 is that Part 61 is way more flexible than 141. 141 has to follow a certain lesson plan, and mainly academies use 141, but not always. I like part 61 better because it's more flexible and more enjoyable, because you can change the lessons around. I know for some ratings like the commercial license and Instrumnet, 61 requires more hours than 141.

I believe 141 is held to higher standards by the FAA with their paper work and training.

I know there are many more differences, and I know that Others will chime in. Goodluck with whichever you choose. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

CaptainMatt pretty much said it all. A few other things to note, every training course in a 141 program is outlined and approved by the local FSDO for each specific flight school. Every last detail is submitted with that outline, including lesson outlines. Some flight schools have custom-made lessons, and others use commercially obtained lesson plans. My school uses the Jeppessen products.

We also (141 schools) must have a chief flight instructor and assistant chief flight instructor, and there are certain criteria for each.

Do 141...At least you know nothing will be left out. You do not move on to lesson two until lesson one is complete. The pass rate in 141 is much higher and that is why. Everything is covered that the FAA wants to see....now, just pray the instructor teaches it correctly...
