Difference between a Cessna 150 and a 152?

I'm looking at getting checked out in a little airplane to buzz around the pattern in. I was just curious if anybody could explain what the differences between a Cessna 150 and a 152 were? I haven't flown either.

Thanks!

I'm no expert, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a feeling that the difference lies in the size of the engine, with obviously the 152 having the larger of the two.

In 1958, the Cessna 150 was introduced as a 1959 model. It had a Continental O-200 engine rated at 100hp. It had a 12-volt electrical system and sold for $6,995 brand new.

In April 1977, Cessna introduced the 152. The plane is pretty much the same thing except for some new added features. They added a 28-volt electrical system to handle the load of additional avionics, added a new cowling with quick-release fasteners for easier access to the engine, redesigned fuel tanks to reduce unusable fuel to 1.5 gallons, and an oil cooler as standard equipment. The new Lycoming O-235-L2C engine offered 110hp that put out more power at lower RPMs (noise reduction).

Those are the basics... and somewhere along the road Cessna added electronic flaps. Cessna stopped production of the 152 in 1985 (I think it was because of all the lawsuits from stupid people suing frivilously...but then Clinton signed some law that protected small GA manufacturers from getting sued).

Correct, Continental vs. Lycolming.

150s had a toggle switch for flaps vs. the 152's detent style flap handle. the 152 also had a longer dorsal fin ahead of the vertical stab. They also switched from spring steel landing gear to tube steel.

Not true, the later model 150s also had detent flap handles.

One is small and the other is smaller.

Obviously you haven't been in both. They're the same size.

Regardless they are both small!!!!!!!!!!

One had a Continental and the other has a Lycoming?

One is even older?

That doesn't make it UNtrue....sounds like you found an exception.
Actually, with most production Cessna singles, you will find the last models morph into the new ones. It's pretty interesting to find the production "flaws" around an airport. I have found airplanes with mounting holes for the longer dorsal fin when the plane doesn't have them. The original C170Bs had round 170A windows. Some of the "NEW" C172s are actually 1985-86 models that were never sold. Cessna spiffed them up an sold them when production resumed.

Not entirely true.
The C152 has a wider cabin. The doors on the 150 are flat, while the doors on the 152 are bowed outward providing more cockpit width.

The last year of the 150M had the flap detent switches. Doesn't matter if it morphed or not, it was a 150, not a 152.

Too bad they restricted the 152 to 30 degrees of flaps. 40 was so much fun!

doesn't the 150 have 100hp
and the 152 has 110 hp

[/ QUOTE ]

yes

Visually I think the 150 has two shorter exhaust pipes on either side of the nose wheel and the 152 has a longer one on the pilot's side

I think both the 150 & 152 are weed wackers but the 152 has the nifty tap head to make the strings longer again.... You don’t reach push lawmower status until the 172 and riding lawnmower status until the 182.

The 206 is sort of inline with a smallish work tractor and while we are at it the 208 is like the "short bus"....
