Didn't even make it to the oral....

Planned on taking my CMEL add-on today and get this. We are doing the IACRA crap and the examiner goes to log in to start the exam. And I'll be damned, a big red sentence pops up saying the examiner "Must have a Commercial AMEL to give this exam". Or something similar to that. Funny thing is, he has a few hundred hours in Piper Senecas and has given checkrides in them recently. Even he didn't know why this would happen. So we had to postpone the checkride. We couldn't get ahold of the FAA guys since it is labor day. What really sucks is that I will have to drive back from school sometime this week to finish it up! Ok, I am done venting. Anyone else have this problem? Probably not.

That sucks. I would have tried to re submit a new IACRA application and have him open it up again.

Overall, I have never been impressed with IACRA. When I was instructing full time, the FAA was just starting to push the IACRA program, and my FSDO supposedly would only accept IACRA, no more paper. Needless to say, if IACRA ever screwed up like this, the examiners I worked with would be cool and just do the old fashioned 8710. of course the FSDO hated it lol

The IACRA system has improved since the first time I used it. It was a royal PITA to get my night restriction removed.

Had one of my students doing a CMEL addon today and IACRA wouldnt let let the examiner log in, so he just used the backup 8710 that I send with every student on a checkride.

I did have an 8710 form all ready to go but before we had the examiners multi problem. My instructor didn't even know what IACRA was(shows how long ago he signed off a student). So we had to sign him up, then his password didn't work, then the examiners problem. After all that 1.5 hours elapsed and my examiner had to leave for a cookout. We tried again Wed. but the weather didn't co-operate. However, IACRA was fixed and we got the oral done. Then for the next few days, the problems were weather, and my examiner's wife having to go to the hospital. With her sick in bed, he still came out yesterday to do the flight test(which I passed!!). Just in time because the airplane was delivered to its new owners this morning.

I've had both sides of the spectrum. DPE's here in Longview use IACRA but have some quirks to the way they like to use it. I went to the DPA FSDO and they wouldn't even accept an IACRA application because he didn't know how to use it.

IACRA sucks.
I used it last back in 2007 and there were gobs of problems then. After that I sent all my students with 8710s after I moved to a more accommodating FSDO jurisdiction.
