Standard: "No comment".

So many things I'd like to talk about but I can't because of this little line in the FOM which talks about public comment on the company. I'm given a lot of levity in terms of answering questions, but don't think for a second that they wouldn't whack my peter if I spoke freely with their campaign to get an American-type deal.

Thanks for the tease though!

Ahhh but nothing stops management from releasing pay scales, discussing negotiations, and other bits of info to the press when it serves them.

Doug: "no comment."

You really need an alternate identity. And you can pretend to be something you're not... I know. You could pretend to be a civilian computer programmer for the Navy and that way you could freely express your opinions. Hey, I even have a good name idea. How about "Tomcatter"?

Nah, because then it'd be too obvious.

Well, lemme have one, politically correct crack at the subject. I'm probably going to close it because it's going to eat at me because I can't speak freely.

Ok, in a nutshell, this is what's going on in the industry more or less. American signed a concessionary contract, primarily because a lot of senior people panicked after a bankruptcy judge decimated USAir's pension program.

American pilots admittedly panicked, said "eek!" and rushed thru a concessionary contract thru the unions.

Almost every major ATA airline (NWA, DAL, Alaska, etc) took American's new concessionary contract, down to the usage of punctuation, word for word and dropped it on every unions desk screaming "GIVE US THIS, NOW OR DAMMIT WE'LL PULL A USAIR!!"

We're trying to negotiate, but the company comes back with "GIVE US THIS, WE WANT THE AMERICAN DEAL!"

We up our offer a little and they return with "GIVE US THIS, WE WANT THE AMERICAN DEAL!!"

So then they start turning the other employee groups against us, once again and spreading rhetoric thru the media.

The negotiations door is open, but they're hedging their bets on pulling another Don Carty/American.
