Delta Flights Grounded

I wonder if this is related to CAPPS II. I know that they were *trying* to integrate it into the standard dispatch stuff as opposed to a completly seperate program.

CAPPS is the system that delta is testing that does a background check on every single person that purchases a ticket. Eventually all carriers will be required to use it, but as of now I think DL is the only test going on. From what I understand it runs a standard background check and credit check. I'm not sure what it flags if it finds something, but early designs assigned people on of three colors. I would imagen they were green, yellow and red although I don't know that for a fact. If you are green you get on the plan. If you are yellow there is some additional security. If you are red you may end up on the deny boarding list or go through extra security. I don't really know how it is implemented. Sorry this is a little vague. Hopefully someone can add more.

he said some sort of virus got into the system.. they've been having trouble all day with getting flight plans and all....

hmmmm.. wonder who downloaded what?!

Probably followed a link from JC to ebaumsworld and crashed the system.

We had a turn at 11:30 tonight go out to BNA. Plane was SIX hours late. I was grumbling about it until the FO told me that 95% of Delta was grounded. Then I started laughing. Then I wonderd if Doug was stuck in ATL ready to strangle someone. I stopped laughing.

he's always ready to strangle someone.. it's usually the pax but this time, it was the bumbling fools in the computer dept... he was delayed for quite a while on quite a few of his flights today - from what I know...

Trust me. It was not cool.

I was flying Delta:

I was scheduled to leave SAV at 4:30. We left around 6:45. I arrived in ATL at 7:30 or so. We finally get on a 9:30 flight to BOS. We board at 10:00. We all wait. The pilots are in another plane waiting for the gate for 90 minutes. We pushback at 11:30. Yay - Thunderstorms. They shut-off the engines and we sit until 12:30. Finally we leave, we arrive in Boston around 3:00am. Bags take 60 minutes!! It's 6:20am and I can't get to sleep!!!

Ahhh...but it was so worth it.

Bills in AUS? I'm in AUS! We got in a little after midnight. I guess if he got in Saturday, he probably flew our plane out this morning.

Tell him sorry about the APU generator!

Nope, must have been the other 88 there (there were two). His had a deferred jumpseat because the observer's O2 mask was broke. Did you bring one in with the Ron Allen paint job?

I think I brought a Ron Allen in, but I can't remember, it's been a blur. But the observer jumpseat O2 mask was working.

still better than 90 with humidity though! :-)

heard it's nice and cool up in wisc (70's/50's?)... might go up there for a weekend this month to visit my girlfriend in MKE and get into some cooler weather - just not quite ready for this oven heat yet...

It's supposed to be up near 80 by Saturday here (Chicago). Ugh, too hot! It gets above 75 and I start whining.......I really can't deal with heat.

Mike, thanks for the offer, he had a (fairly) early show this morning. They got in around 1 or 2 this afternoon, and went somewhere (he told me where, and apparantly it was a pretty cool place but I forgot the name of it) for dinner.
