Delta Engine Fire 4/18

Probably wouldn’t. Unless my internal information reflected a less vague assessment about the safety of the aircraft.

Alright, Joe, story time!

Totally MMQB the video, not the one that actually happened today. But I think it’s a good academic discussion.

I think in the case of the 777 video I’d level off low and slow, drop the gear for a few minutes (if there was a BTMS deferral in the MEL, maybe use that as reference for how long is appropriate). Look over the systems synoptics ans maintenance computer. Send one of the other pilots back to look out some windows.

If everything looks fine I’d report my findings to the company and with their agreement I’d be fine with continuing.

Just for the sake of discussion. How many of you guys would air return after a pretty vague report from another aircraft?

Coming out of Charlie South one day, center told us tower had called them to pass along that they had received a phone call from somebody at the FBO who saw a "rope" trailing from our gear before we retracted it.

Did a low pass with the gear out in PHL and then landed.

No news trucks met us.

I didn’t get any news trucks, but the time I made @Derg late for work in JFK because of a gear disagree, one of the people in the LiveATC.net forums took all the radio comms, deleted all the dead space, and made an MP3 of it. I sounded like way less of a weenie than I was expecting.

True story bro!

We had an ops guy report to the tower that a hatch was open on a guppy taxiing for departure. Aircraft stopped for the ops guy to send a cell phone pic to the crew who confirmed it was just an outflow valve.
