Firm orders inherited from Northwest that would be North American launch dropped from annual report; carrier favors 777s

777s probably make more sense for their international routes.

Wasn't the 787-9 supposed to be better than a 767-300, and within' uncomfortable distance from competing almost directly with the 777?

Also, I am aware that the 787's NWA had on order were the 8 models and not that signifigant in terms of range improvment in direct comparison to current generation 767's!

Now here's the kicker. If Delta considers additional 777's a "replacement" for the 787 orders, all hell's going to break loose. If they consider the additional 777's just additional 777's which were already on order, all's well.

Well, if they're considered "replacements", then even though Delta South has 777's on campus, the "replacement" aircraft will be temporarily fenced off from Delta South which will wreak havoc on the category. So imagine having a category of (for example) 20 777's flown by NYC and ATL but then there are 5 more that can only be flown by Delta (North) for a period of time.

Imagine the logistics of that.

If they're just additional deliveries, then they're just more 777's.

Well, all hell's going to break lose anyways. If they are considered "replacements" for the 787 order, as you said you are going to have 777s in New York and ATL that have to be flown by seperate crews depending on the tail number. If they magically become "additional" orders for 777 (and the 787 orders stay off the books) then the North guys are going to scream bloody murder that they just lost growth.

(actually, now that I think about it, that second scenario only works if the 787s were included in the fence, which I'm pretty certain they were)

I guess that is why the Arbitrators said that if any thing goes to arbitration about this scenario, they are the ones to decide it. Bloch and his group, will get to decide if they are replacement or growth.

:yeahthat:

If they're "replacements" the NWA guys will be happy and the Delta guys won't. If they're "additional" the Delta guys will be happy and the NWA guys won't. Either way, someone's gonna get hacked off. Which means it's fair. :)

What would be most fair (probably) is to "un-fence" any new 777's that come that were not on the books already.

I was kinda referring to the philosophy that the way to know a SLI is fair is everyone is angry. :)

I agree. Unfencing the 777 would be the easiest thing to do.

Just wait. We are putting pressure on there for a few other orders we are working on. It is all a game. But, yes there is an out clause that lets this report be termed as factual.

I'm all about fairness here....if the planes are ordered as a result of the cancellation of the 787 order, I can see those as being fenced to the NWA side.

It will be interesting what transpires. I'm hearing 773ERs to start replacing some of the whales as well.

Them boys are coming at it sounds like we may see our first 773 before the end of 2010.

I see a LOA for a tearing down of the fences when that happens. DALPA has done that before. It just is another bargaining chip.

The only thing I can see causing a snag there (and I think that's the fairest thing to fence those 777s to NWA, BTW) is how to allocate the 777s. Do you fence out tail numbers or just X amount of 777s per bid period? I'd think the second option would be a LOT easier.

They could also just get rid of the fence as well. DAL in the past has worked with DALPA to get rid of small fences like this. IF the 744's go away and do not become freighters there is a good argument for this.

Wouldn't be surprised if the 74's join the rest of their Northwest 747 bretheren where I am now. As of today, there are 9 being scrapped, 4 of which are NWA 200s, along with a few other 200s and a 300.

If the 747s go away, having a fence is kinda silly. Are the 777s more efficient fuel wise than the 747s? I would assume they are, but I have no honest idea.
