Delta and CASS program??

I was hopping on a UAL flight the other day and the gate agent mentioned DAL as a CASS airline. I haven't gotten any official word from our company. Any truth to the rumor??? It sure saved my behind being able to hop up front to get to work especially with the holiday loads starting.

Unfortunately I don't think the brass at CHQ will be coughing up for CASS anytime soon, which sucks! If they ever did, Kingairer would have another guy junior to him in SDF and I'd be riding Brown to work!

what's CASS? Jumpseat priveleges?

[/ QUOTE ]CASS = Cockpit Access Security System. TSA-approved system to verify the employment of pilots to allow access to cockpit jumpseats. Right now you can only ride IN the cockpit on your own airline (and its affiliates, like I can ride DL and Doug can ride DL Connection carriers including us). But, because Northwest (for example) has no way to "verify" me electronically, I can't ride in the cockpit on them. CASS, for those airlines that participate, changes that. The only problem is it is not inexpensive so many airlines are in no hurry to do it ... especially since it just benefits a bunch of us overpaid prima donnas anyway.

I resent that...

I'm a primma donna but I'm certainly not overpaid.

US Airways mainline rampers making $85,000 a year as of 6 months ago (now about $55,000/yr) are overpaid.

Go CASS!

So as a recent college graduate, what would a level of compensation you feel would be more appropriate for a baggage handler?

[/ QUOTE ]Just to ensure there is no lack of clarity in my post, this statement was intended to be read just DRIPPING with sarcasm.

As you were ...

$12 to $19 per hour...depending on years of service sounds fair.

but I guess your worth whatever you can negotiate.

$19/hr plus just a few(like 5 or 6) hours of over time a week will be around $45,000.

The conditions those guys work in.....I wouldn't want the job.

Sorry, that just touched on one of my capitalist pet peeves. We have the natural tendency in our culture to preach about how others are overpaid but quickly add that my own pay is 'just right' or 'too low'. Certainly a job I would not want! If your baggage handlers can make more money at Target, chances are they're not going to reliably show up to work and your airline is going to come to a grinding halt thus costing you massive revenue losses.

Starting wage for a baggage handler/customer service punching bag? $8.75/hr.

That's for ExpressJet. SWA was $8.95.

Delta is getting to be one of the Majors who hasn't joined the CASS system. Right now UAL,AA,Continental, Northwest, Alaska, Eagle, UPS are all participants. Of course two of those are bankrupt but I'm not sure how much it costs to upgrade the computer system.
