Probably a topic thats been beat to death, but are companies other than majors starting to require Bachelor degrees?
 
I've never heard of a person getting a job because they DIDN'T have a BA. Even if it's not required, having it will help put your resume on the top of the pile. Don't limit yourself.
 
Get the degree first. All of the regionals "require" it but have hired without. I know a few. However, most if not all the majors insist on it.
 
I'm actually a few semesters away from getting my degree. At the moment, I might have to put it on hold until my situation improves. Just trying to get a better understanding of where the industry is going with degree requirements.
 
I don't have one yet and it hasn't seemed to hinder me just yet. But then again, I'm not really at a level in aviation where it is seen as a requirement. It comes into play further on into your career. I'd say do what you have to do to finish it. Me personally, I'm not sure i am going to finish it. Would it be a good thing for my career? Absolutely. Is aviation my only skill? Nope. I already have some nice legs up in life. I have a house, a decent retirement savings (for my age), very little debt, and not a ton of bills. I also have a lot of experience with a varied array of industries that I have connections in and can make a living in if need be. I am going to finish my associate degree. But with the cost of a bachelor degree these days I'm not sure in my particular situation it is a necessity in order for me to live a comfortable life. If your only a few semesters away however, just finish it.

I will have my degree soon, and I don't think having one is ever a bad thing. I'm sure competition is tough amongst all the qualified candidates. I was just curious where this requirement was going in the future. Love the McDonald's aircraft...too funny.
 
I don't think many people try to make the argument that a degree enhances your "skills as a pilot." That's not the point. However, those with degrees will likely have better communication skills, problem-solving skills, and more overall polish... all things most (decent) employers care about.

I was a firefighter and an EMT prior....I also worked some other odd jobs. Having a degree shows the ability to complete a long term goal.....so does passing 2 professional 18 week fire academies getting an ATP........and having the dedication to not quit prior to making it to your first legit flying job. I would much rather take that student loan payment and invest the money into stocks and other funds.

I'd much rather you invest in your editing skills, but judging by your other responses on here, it's clear that acting like a professional isn't high on your list of things to do.

Oh and how you're about to blow up? It just further proves my point, so you may want to avoid that.

I flew with a guy that had a masters who liked to harass flight attendants and seemed to be well known by pro standards. I don't agree they have better problem solving skills or "polish"

Incidentally. It will be those individuals, maybe not the pro-stands guy. Who are going to be the ones hired at mainline. Because they have a degree while you flounder at regional hell level. Because you don't have a degree.
