DC Photo Flight (FRZ Waiver)

Some aerial photography work inside the FRZ. Hope you enjoy. Quality is poor due to the bug splats on the front window and the camera I was using but still good enough. Let it load and watch in Hi-Def & Full-Screen.

You guys use the "DC Photo" callsign on the radio? I hear that all the time on the way up to IAD and JYO

Nah the past couple days I have been on N11019 blocking up DCA and IAD airspace.:)

I have heard that call sign every once in a while though.

its not that hard...our survey company this last winter was in there all the time for about 2 months...more annoying then anything else. We had to make 10 phone calls every morning before going to shoot revenue. [Mainly b/c all the agencies (FAA, FSS, Secret Service, etc.) never communicated with each other>really annoying]

The company did it for me. Just a background check I am pretty sure. We just have to have a 5-0 if we are within 7 nm of the DCA VOR. All I do is file a SFRA flight plan, call up Potomac and make sure we have an idea as to what the other is going to do, and then go fly the flight. Lot of fun though.

letting the autopilot do all the work?:)

Nope...the way he works is that he controls the bank with his knees and sometimes his hands on sharper banks. The only thing I have to do is maintain his altitude and then talk to ATC. Pretty simple.

yeah, i used to work for a company that specialized in ADIZ and FRZ survey work. the first few times it was pretty cool flying into the FRZ, but after a while we'd fight over who was going to fly in there that day. the phone calls and coordination was just a hassel. not sure if it's still required, but as of about 3 years ago we had to carry and armed cop with us within 7nm of DCA. sounds intense, but he usually was out drinking and playing poker with his buddies the night before and just slept off his hangover. that's homeland security for ya! :D

whenever we test downtown d.c. inside the frz it's required we have a cop on board. the guy we usually get is really cool.

getting the waiver was easy since they have our fleet's tail #'s. but i realize that's probably no help to anyone.
