DC/MD Flight School

I'm a military guy and I often flight instruct on the side.

Well, I found out fairly recently that I'll be moving to the DC area. Of any of the airports SW of DC (VKX, W32, W00), can anyone recommend a flight school? I have one lead with a JC member already, but I want to make sure I get the complete picture.

Well, I found out fairly recently that I'll be moving to the DC area. Of any of the airports SW of DC (VKX, W25, W00), can anyone recommend a flight school? I have one lead with a JC member already, but I want to make sure I get the complete picture.

There are a couple of flight schools at VKX - I'm using GT-Aviation there for my IR. They just pulled the DA-40 out of the service due to a major mech issue and the owner of that plane is apparently meticulous. The 172s are older, but the owner takes good care of them and they are quite airworthy. Be aware that it takes a while to get your PIN from TSA to operate out of the Maryland 3. I'm still waiting on mine. I love the field, though. It's got a very "airport community" feel. I've done taken aerobatic instruction there, too. Would LOVE to own a house over there.

VKX is a challenging airport. The short runway in the valley coupled with the security procedures and airspace makes it...interesting...especially on gusty days. I do like it, though, because I'm only 12 miles from there. It's also a good place to stage from if you need to fly down south.

Don't know about flight schools at the other places. Where are you going to be living?

We haven't exactly figured it out yet, but we're thinking base housing on Bolling.

Cool. That side of the river can be a BIT dodgy in places, but I don't honestly know much about the housing at Bolling or the immediate blocks.

If you decide to look in DC proper, let me know. I'd be happy to show you around if you don't know the area well.

Yeah..it will be on Bolling or DC proper. We do not plan on living in Anacostia or Capital Heights.
