Dang!!

Wednesday was my b-day (happy 28th to me!) and I decided to book a couple hours as my b-day gift to myself. Well, the CFI and I get up to 8500, cruise on over to the practice area, start messing around with climbing/descending turns and turns about a point, and BAM!! High voltage meter goes off, reading 34.5 on the main bus and 34.3 on the standby bus. He turns to me and goes, "Well, you are the A&P. What do you think is wrong?"

To which I naturally replied, "Well, lemme climb under the nose cowl and I'll let ya know."

After he laughs, he then asks me, "You are the student here. What do you think is the best course of action?" I answer that we should abort the flight and immediately turn around and land. He says good job, we enter the pattern, and I "greased" a crosswind landing. What's "greased" mean? I mean, I think I did a pretty good job and all considering it's only my fourth landing, but I'm a little slow on the pilot lingo.

Thoughts?
