DAL CEO interview on APM Marketplace

Looks like a great person to be at the helm of the sub. Also, solidifying the death of the regional as we came to know it recently.
Just when I thought Delta might bring COMAIR back, along with the Academy, so I could get a front row seat to Doug and the administration that was down there dancing the cha cha, (sigh)

But seriously Doug, I can't thank you enough for what you did and did in the other thread regarding washing out and being honest in a major interview, man you sure you don't interview people for Delta?

Nah, I just have some friends that I can ask questions to from time to time.

As someone who gets his news on the internet so he doesn't have to watch videos, can someone sum up the part about the regionals?

The discussion about the regionals was actually very limited. Not much of a surprise, either, although I think he should have been given some props to the regional partners during the outage who weren't grounded.

There were 800 Regional Jets at the height to just 400 Regional Jets today, they are working on bringing in larger aircraft because customers don't like small planes. It is more efficient and allows more customers to be served by mainline Delta. Ouch.

I laughed when Kai made the comment about the serious safety video being odd when they were known for having such fun safety videos. I agree, Kai! :) I don't quite agree with Ed's explanation as to why they aren't funny all the time, anymore! They need to alternate? No, go back to the fun ones! ;)

Heard this in the car yesterday, will definitely seek out the longer one. My impression was "good tempered by the fact that a CEOs entire job is to give a good impression of things that may not, in fact, be good". But I certainly liked the things that were coming out of his lie-hole.

Also disagree profoundly on the "fun" safety videos. Not because I'm anti-fun (although of course I am), but because they weren't fun anymore. They were strained, labored, perhaps even try-hard. How about just some normal ones with the usual unusually attractive crew members until they come up with a genuinely new and funny idea?

I keep telling folks not to get too comfortable with a widget on your tail if your paycheck doesn't have one.

So what's the future? In my totally outside looking in view, 50 seaters, are definitely going away. But I think that 76 seaters are here to stay at least for awhile. I could see airlines trying hard to get scope relaxation in future Section Six negotiations. Hopefully that won't be fruitful.

But won't there always at least be a need for regionals, there have always been regionals as stepping stones.

Is the future then MPL's? Or is it airline owned regionals, with flow through agreements. Or will airlines be hiring CFI's directly into their cockpits, like they did in the 70's/80's.

Kind of like United is doing now, with their ATCA flight school down in Goodyear.

Hopefully all in house.

Many have asked about details about the latest company desired direction on DCI. The company has proposed to:
  • over a 3-4 year period, remove ALL 50 seat aircraft from DCI in exchange for 50 more 70/76 seaters and increased Mainline to DCI Block Hour Ratio.

While large RJ airframes go up total DCI airframes go down as well as a DCI total seats reduction of 2500. Basically a further advanced implementation of Scope Choke.

What's the proposed ratio and what will the total amount of 70-76 seat aircraft be?
