Over the past week, I had the chance to hike the Grand Canyon's South Rim and other trails in AZ, and the pictures just can't do justice. Between Phoenix and Flagstaff alone you're experiencing that temperature difference of nearly 20 degrees with a 7000' elevation change. But, more than that, it's "only" a solid day of hiking as some folks I encountered were just finishing off Bright Angel.

Coming back south from the hiking excursion, I got to see my first wild elk. Not exactly something one -wants- to see on the road, driving a rental car at 75 mph, but they're pretty cool I guess. Not as large as moose, but smarter than deer you'd see blasted all over the highway otherwise.
Speaking of food,
A little hole-in-the-wall style outlet, right off of the I-17 between Phoenix and Flagstaff, the Rock Springs Cafe defines the meaning of dessert.
The pie that this place makes had me full for a day and a half. I don't say that lightly. The peach was good, but the cherry was nuts.
