I noticed you said in another post that you were accepted into the Coast Guards Blue 21 program, thats really cool because I'm doing that too. Since you've already been accepted, it looks like you've already been down to Mobile where the final selection is.

Can you tell me what goes on there so I know what to expect?
I'm really curious and my recruiters don't know because I am there first Blue 21 guy.

thanks

?????? JUst a quick pointer, if you are trying to reach some specific person drop them a PM. It works better and then you don't expose your personal business. and btw.... Welcome to Jetcareers !!!!

Thanks for the welcome.

BTW, I concur w/ your argument, but I also think that the info he can share can help others who want apply for the same program.

although actually this should go in the military program. . . my bad.

Blue 21 is a recruiting program that "guarantees" a flight slot in the CG . . . assuming you meet certain requirements. The one that I remember off the top of my head is a BS in an aerospace or aviation area of study. Even with a degree, I think only grads of certain schools that met academic and minority percentage standards qualify. If you meet the other requirements (which I don't remember), you head to Officer Candidate School for officer training. If you make it through, you report to Pensacola for joint flight training with the Navy. If not, I think you're still obligated to serve as a Coastie for 6 or 8 years in a non-flight capacity.

When I was checking out CG careers a few months ago, they were only taking helicopter pilots.

Good description, I concur; the coast guard is looking for minorities, but they just don't up and say, so they just say you have to go to a school with a minority population.

I was accepted, however, did not take the slot. I wasn't ready to make he commitment as of now.... I've got a lot of other options I'm looking into including medcine, but aviation is still my top priority. I have no clue how far you are into the selection process, but I'm guessing you have not been interviewed yet, and that is what will happen in Mobile. Your recruiter should have let you know this. As for the interview, be yourself more than anything... do not be nervous.... be confident, but no cocky... review some CG history just for the hell of it, and be ready to back up anything you included on your paperwork. As for getting selected.... GOOD LUCK! I'm having doubts about turning it down, but what is done is done. I may reapply to the CG for blue21, or maybe the AF for a slot. Just keep working hard as there is nothing that stands out more than persistence.
