DA-20 problems

Has anybody else heard of cracks developing near the prop hub on DA-20s? Two of our schools Diamonds are down with this problem.

Cracks in the prop itself? Wood prop, as I recall?
I am not sure where they are located, I am just going off what the squawk board said in flight ops. Atleast one of the Diamonds is a metal prop, I dont know about the other three.

we have had cracks in our DA-40's on their GRFP blades. We sent them in and got a new set of blades for free.

Have had that problem a lot with the composite props on the DA-40, but not with the DA-20. Which prop does your school have installed?

I dont know what props we have. The aircraft are DA-20-C1, so I am thinking Sensenich wood props.

We have four 20's, three with the Sensenich props, and one with a composite.

The other one that is in the POH is the Hoffman (i think thats how it's spelled) and i've never flown a 20 with one.

We have never had this problem.

Good Luck.

Hey thats what warranties are for right :D.

Cracks in the prop, the skin, wing spars, ailerons, canopy, Landing gear actuator plate on the 42......give yourself some more time with Diamond, you will see more.

And when did diamond ever start putting composite or metal props on the 20?

Its been a few years but I recall their being an issue with the prop covering on the -20 when operating in rain. Something about above a certain rpm the covering over the wood prop? Its been about 3 years since I was in the -20/40. I wish the G1000 made its way into the jet....

I remember reading a warning about the prop on the DA20 has to be left in the horizontal because if it is left vertical and it rains it could throw the plane out of balance.

Our school is replacing the wooden props with metal props because rain isnt good for the wood props. Atleast that was what I was told.
I would imagine that that could be a problem if they are not hangared.

We have never had any problems with our wood (Sens) props on our 20's we have 2 of them. How long would it take for a wood prop to start seeing signs of "wear and tear" from the rain?? A year or 2?
