Cruising around the Southwest in a 'Nole!

Thats the one. It really isnt difficult at all, I suspect people lose SA, and then bugger it up.
Meh.

Failure to brief and fly the course guidance (and load it into the GPS/FMS using the procedure key) makes me sad. As we discussed at work with the Safety Officer yesterday, "It's a simple procedure. No matter what runway you take off from you fly heading 250 and join the same radial outbound. Turning direct to Vegas IS NOT in the procedure." Maybe "here, brief this plate" should be a part of all IPCs.

People are just complacent and don't understand basic pilot nav SIDs. It's pretty sad. I shot that SID literally 200 plus times when I was based there. We had to go to 2 separate LAS FSDO safety meetings about it and some of the deviations he showed us were the dumbest things I've ever seen. I'm no IFR wonder pilot, but I find the procedure rather simple. My 100 hour instrument students managed to do it well after one time...

Getting close to the magic 5 hundo, just started cracking the books for the ATP written. No apps out yet.

How's the new gig?

Thata boy. Keep working hard and don't get complacent. Continue to fly safe and efficiently. You'll make it out of that blue shirt in one piece if you do those two things... As for my new job, I finish systems today and then off to Charlotte to get CRJ qual'd. I love it. Feels good to get taken care of and paid well. Unfortunately, not all regionals are like this one, so choose wisely sir... Alec, same goes for you.

What's up with the NOTOWN not being available off of 25? Last few nights I've been in there it's been like that. Is that just a night thing?

Flightcheck came in 3 months ago and was basically like "oh LAS VOR signal sucks ass"

Gotcha. I knew it had to be somewhat recently because I've departed 25 IFR before.

I know of someone who had the wind kick up on them (but right down 25), they elected to depart 25 VFR then were denied flight following and were unable to pick up their IFR until they were near GFS. They ended up spiraling up in the practice area (at night) and going over the top.

One of the reasons I've been hitting Yuma and HII. But I heard they are charging for the crew car in Havasu now so it looks like Yuma or 100 knot trips to SBP.

I just looked at that plate.
That's about as easy as departure procedures get.

You just have to stay IFR.. Say "I would like amend IFR request.. I want to fly the NOTWN2 in VFR conditions." Its weird, but basically you're IFR cleared, but you're doing the procedure VFR so they let you use any runway..

HII has now gone off the deep end for charging :(

Yuma is epic. Love that place and the 5 series BMW. Can't forget the $1 lunch either.
