CRM or Safety Pilot MEL

I am wondering if it would be better to build ME time in a CRM type environment or a building program (basically safety pilot). Both give you the 50/50 PIC time, but I think the CRM would give better workload environment.

Comments?

Thanks in Advance.

I have been trying to figure out the same thing. There is a post somewhere here on JC where someone mentioned that they thought it was very good experience, particularly in the SoCal airspace. I think he did the CRM program at Lenair Avation @ SNA. I'm not sure what twin they use, but they do offer a Cessna 402 for rent I believe.

Is anyone acutally buying the CRM (safety pilot BS?) Thats the way I see it. Its not CRM, its a way for to pilot to kinda log the time legally. Calling it CRM is just a cover.

Have you talked with anyone who has been through a CRM program?

Am i to Understand that both people up front are logging the time? Is it Instruction? Maybe I should get more info first.

CRM training should be much more extensive than sitting safety pilot. I think a lot of places are using it as a "ploy", when they could be using it for a good training purpose.

If done correctly, a safety pilot program IS a CRM program.......

Aren't you at Skymates, is their ME time builder Safety Pilot or CRM? I didn't think they had instructors go with them, but I could be wrong.

It's safety pilot.

Yeah, it's safety pilot here. What I meant was, you can run a safety pilot flight exactly the same as a CRM program, just without someone in the back giving you pointers. One person acts as the PF, the other acts as the PNF and runs the radios and checklists. No need to pay someone to coach you on that stuff, really. That's the way my friend and I always did our safety pilot flights when we were both working on our instrument ratings.

What is this safety pilot stuff. Are people flying with the hood on every leg and every flight? I guess so. Of course if you have two people flying it would be a good idea to share the workload etc if you are both qualified...What else are you going to do? If the guy is under the hood its hard for him to get on the radio and call traffic. I just think this "CRM" is a stretch and is just another way to con timebuilding pilots to pay more money because they think its some superior training.

I think I learned more being the pilot not flying than when I was the pilot flying. When I was at ATP the PNF did the radios and navigation while the PF just flew the plane and took us to where we were going. Going around and doing a second approach is a good thing to do once you get to where you are going so you both can shoot an approach.

Worse than that. It's two pilots up front, and an instructor in the back, all of them logging PIC. This is the kind of crap that deserves a new FAR.

Jason,
let's rent a plane, fly to have lunch in Memphis, and call it "CRM" training!!
