crewbag in a CRJ

I am looking to buy the 22" Travelpro Crew5 bag expandable. Does anyone use this and does it fit in the passenger overhead compartment of the CRJ?

thanks

My understanding is that most 22" bags fit in the CRJ, unless you stuff it to the expandable size.

I just picked up the 22" PNT from the Stopover Store. I love that thing. I haven't been able to cram so much stuff into a bag before. I've heard too many complaints about the Travel Pros, but not many about the PNT. And, my bag fits in the overhead of the CRJ (without the laptop).

Ditto. Got the PNS bag, LOVE IT!

It may just barely fit, but don't expect to bring it on (as a pax commuting or non-revving). Rollerbags are usually gate-checked. This is done to maximize storage space available to everyone. F/As really hate being given a hard time about gate checks. Especially by non-revs.

I'm not sure where working crew bags are stored, they may be in a closet of some sort.

you keep your laptop in your rollaboard? arent you afraid its going to get damaged?

It depends on where the bag is kept.

I kept my laptop in my kit bag, but it was stored under seats, in closets, nowhere where it was going to get smashed. If you've got a laptop in a roller bag, and your rollerbag sits in the cockpit with you, you can be pretty sure it isn't going to get crushed. But if you put your roller bag in a closet, or anywhere in a cargo bin or overhead it would obviously be best not to keep the laptop in it!

We just tag them as a carry-on and stick them in the cargo bin. You get it back right when you get off, so its no big deal.

I use a 22" TravelPro on the CRJ. It fits OK in the overhead as long as it's not crammed. Most of the crew keep it in there, the rampers are notorious for losing your bags if you put them in the back. Some people will keep t in the cockpit just ahead of the door...If you're real short you can keep it behid your seat as well.

Is it true that the CRJ doesn't have a luggage closet for the crew? A buddy of mine was saying they gate check their luggage on flights that they're working....

That sux

The installation of the new doors after 9/11 took away the closets. ASA is currently installing a "retrofit" to get us back the crew closet as airplanes go in for major maintenance. We can put our bags in these "special" yellow bags and they go in the cargo bin in the back. Rampers will leave them back there...

I just out my bag in the overhead. Rampers have a tendency to misplace bags

I take my on board when I non-rev if I know the flight isn't too full or if it's a short one. When I DH'd to PHL two weekends ago, I took everything on board. Now, if the flight's full, yeup it's going in back.

When I'm working, the bag either goes in the galley closet or stays with me.

Nope. When I'm working, the bag stays with me. If I'm DHing or non-revving, I take the laptop out and put the bag in the back.

We have only been working Pinnacle flights for a couple weeks and Im only at Emery on the weekends, but I think the crews leave their bags on the red shelves and we take them back to the cargo hold. They get them back at the gate in DTW. Doesnt seem like a bad deal to me.:)

On the ERJ in the 145s we have a crew closet that will fit three packed rollaboards, as well as hang all your coats, and any extra small bags you might have. I have an extra duffle I use sometimes, but I just bring it with me in the cockpit.

On the 135s, there is a small closet that will fit one bag. Usually the F/A puts her bag in there, as well as anyone's coats, then the pilots will put their bags under the last row of seats (or in an overhead if it can fit). Not often will you find us giving our bags to the ramp to put in the back.

If I commute or deadhead on the RJ (not often), I'll gate check my bag. Just take out my laptop from the back pocket. Lately though, I'll search and see if our hotels have internet... if not I don't even bring it. Like this last trip, lugged it along, but had no internet access. Bummer!

I jumpseated on AA's Super 80 last night coming home, and I liked their deal. Big crew closet, large overhead bins. Too bad CAL got rid of all theirs!

Doug, so when is Delta hiring into the MD-88/90? Haha j/k.

At Eagle, on the ATRs & Saabs all the crew rollerbags always went in cargo, and rampers never took them out or anything. When the EMB showed up, for some reason the rampers suddenly could not leave crew bags in the cargo bin! These were the same employees who would not touch crew bags on any other plane, but on the EMB the crew bags would forever end up in the terminal.........rrrrrrrrrrrrr.

So although the company tried to tell us not to, we always put our bags in the closet on the EMB.

At AA we had different locations for storing crew bags, it depended on the aircraft. Sometimes it was in a closet, sometimes in an overhead, or underseats. But as working crew at AA our bags NEVER went in a cargo bin.

I recall in training, they told us to put 1 bag in the forward food cart (1 is "always" left empty). I (like an idiot) listened to this advice. I had my bag in there all day. Last leg of the day was a tight turn out of IAH. Chelsea, in their infinate wisdom and efficiency, shows up 10 minutes prior to push. The F/A is busy with the pax and I'm busy up front. We get into DSM, I open the cart and find 37 snack trays. Needless to say, I'm pissed. I called dispatch and they gave me the number to ops who gave me the number to Chelsea. The supervisor then yelled at me for this.

After a call to the chief pilot's office, the bag was located and flown to DSM on the last flight of the night. Now, the bag either goes in the cabin, the closet (rarely) or gate checked.

When on the 135 I find a convinient set-up with the Capt's bag in the little closet, mine under the last seat and the FA in the galley cart. They (the FAs) usually have a better idea what's going on in those carts than I do......As far as I'm concerned those carts magically appear and sometimes they're filled with mystery sausage, turkey and the ever favorite salted nut roll....

That was a bad month for me. A week before that, I got my iPod jacked from the Northside Crew Room in Houston.
