If you look at the position/patter of the white dots, the black dots appear to be shadows of the white dots. So based on that theory I would provide conjecture that they're either showing the ground location of the planes that are in air OR the positions of the previous update (ie, the last update the previous 5 minutes are the black dots and the current update is the white dots so you can see how far / direction they've moved?).

no there are legitimate black dots on the map.. not just shadows.. check out eastern canada right now.. i think it's military that thing is HAULING.. it was over mid-eastern canada about 15 minutes ago.. if you zoom into new york you'll see black planes too

haha.. your avatar made me chuckle

The black dots are the shadows!:laff::sarcasm:

This is a neat site too. Put in the tail or flight number of any flight you want to track. It's a good way to keep tabs on people you need to pick up form the airport or traveling family members...you can see exactly where they are. I mean literally to the minute, their coordinates, what ATC they're dealing with, etc.

I put in a flight number so that it will show up on a tracking page. Then on the left hand side you can put in any tail or flight number you want.

If you click on "track log" for a flight you can see where they were every minute and whose airspace it was.

Here is a phone shot I took of Flight Explorer at about 1600L EST a month or so ago. Crazy stuff, it's all the IFR traffic in the U.S. at the time.

I've been checking this link out for a while now off of NATCA's webpage. I've noticed that sometimes it will say "BLOCKED" for the flight's info. Any idea why it would be blocked?

yeah i saw that too... probably top secret government cheese delivery routes

p.s. LA and ATL are on FIRE today. hah. the've got em lined up halfway through each state!

VIPs usually. ATCMonitor.com does the same thing, usually there are quite a few flights in/out of PDK and FTY that show up as "BLOCKED". My guess most of them are probably corporate executives or other persons of public notoriety that rather prefer that people don't have the ability to follow their flights for privacy reasons.
