Piece of Trash
So my dad has this thing of going to Goodwill to see what they have every week. I thought I'd tag along for fun and check out the books. Good thing I did. I picked up a copy of Legend & Legacy : The Story of Boeing and Its People ,, but the big surprise was Flying the Line II . Snapped both of them up in a heartbeat.
So, I dove write into Flying the Line since I hear everyone say it's a must read. I know it's Vol II, but it starts in the 70s prior to deregulation, goes through the 80s (Braniff, etc), and goes in depth into Contintental's fight with Lorenzo.
What really surprises me so far is how fragmented ALPA is. A lot of the instances in the book might have worked if the different airline's MECs stood together instead of separate. For example, a Stoppage of Service was planned in the 70s to try to raise governemtn awareness of skyjacking. Eastern was all for it, and followed through. A couple of other airlines had a few people walk off (I think Northwest and United), but some airlines (like TWA) totally pulled out of it. After hearing some heated arguements between some pilots from different airlines, to me it seems this has even gotten worse since deregulation. Thoughts or observations?
