Continental Express pilot misplaces gun at KGRR

There's just a wee bit more to the story, but if I told the rest of it, my pals from APSA would have my heinie.

Airline Pilot Security Alliance, or something like that? A couple of my close friends are big cheeses with the .org

The thing should be in a shoulder holster under his jacket, not in a locked box!

.org is just my geeky way of saying 'organization' for the digeratti.

What do you think about guns for pilots, Doug, or any other airline pilots on here? Good idea, or is there a better way to increase safety?

IMO I think pilots carrying guns does nothing for increase security.

I agree. There should be a person in the cockpit or in the galley area, prone, facing the rear of the plane with a SAW or M60, pulling security.

Guess it would take alot of modifications for this to happen.

Excuse my computer illiteracy, what does IMO mean?

IMO= in my opinion.
I dont care if they have them or if they dont. Just be prudent in their usage, and I am fine. Or just give them airsoft guns, and aim for the eyes.

From what I've seen of the program from a 'behind the cockpit door'-perspective, If terrorists try to overtake an aircraft with an FFDO crewmember onboard, the terrorists really haven't a chance.

I think its only American pilots that are carrying weapons.
I dont think its been approved hee in OZ, at least not that im aware of.

Seems like common sense to me. You want to get into the cockpit you’ll have to go through the door. It doesn’t take an expert marksman to point a weapon toward the door and pull the trigger when the bad guys try to come through it. The terrorist is at a distinct disadvantage.

One on my professors was a Capt, chief pilot and VP of flight ops at Continental and was really against guns for pilots. He said that there is other stuff in the cockpit that can be used, like the fireaxe"?" I have never seen one in the aircraft but I was wondering what ya'll think about that.

A crash axe can help but if you've got 4 or 6 terrorists rushing the cockpit, you're toast. If it was one attacker: it's going to be "Braveheart", two: perhaps "Ultimate Fighting", three: fuggedabowdit.
