Considering Dispatch School

Hello. New to the forum here. I'm a (soon to be) layed off Kennedy Space Center employee, so I'm looking at what career options I might take next.

I'm trying to get a feel for how the demand is these days for Aircraft/Airline Dispatchers out there, to see if I can justify the cost of the training. It's nice to know there are many schools here in FL, and I already have my Private and Instrument ratings, so I believe those will help if I decide to do this.

Many sites I've read today say that this is currently an in-demand position, and I'm just wondering how true that really is. Any input appreciated, thanks!!

With your flight time/experience already..... it would be a waste, IMHO obviously, to do any other program but Airline Ground School's fast track program. They specialize in students like you and they are not expensive at all.

As for the job opportunities, it just depends. I was laid off in April and have already been called back (typical for the ad-hoc carriers). During that time, there were a lot of jobs available and it seems like a steady stream will be available for the foreseeable future. You just may have to bend and break for those jobs though. I really find it funny (don't mean it as a slam) that some in this profession say stuff like "there are no jobs available" because they have a lot of stipulations. If you're flexible the work is out there but if you put a lot of restrictions on things your probably not going to find much work in this profession.

Thanks for your input. You mean the 6 day course on that website?
I'm a little leery of taking an advanced course because I haven't been actively flying in a few years and I'm rusty on the material. Good to know it is an option though.

Thanks for the info!!

That or the weekend course offered if there is at least two signed up.

Don't worry about it...... while its a "requirement" to be a pilot or have done at least the private written, its really just all about dispatch. Not much about flying. If you're worried, take a weekend and refresh on weather and the ATC system and you'll be all set.
