Considerations for making an insurance claim

Howdy all-

Luggage in the back of my Cardinal got loose and cracked the rear plexiglass and plastic in a windshear event last week when I was commuting home from my 121 job. I never thought id be doing it but planning to file an insurance claim ($0 deducible.) Does anyone have any personal experience as to adverse effects I may not be aware of? this is why we carry insurance, and I those I have talked to that have made claims haven't seen their rates rise, but I still find myself pretty concerned with it being a recorded issue.

Only claim I ever had was maybe 15 years ago with an Apache. It had an aftermarket battery and battery box and the cables weren't labeled. I had taken the battery out for a time and when putting it back in I hooked it up backwards. Ended up frying some older King radios. The only expensive radio was the 430 and it was okay. I was embarrassed but did call Avemco sort of as an afterthought to see what their policy was. They coved it and did not raise my rates. Again, that was some time ago.

Even though it is a $0 deductible, you'll probably see an increase in premium next year. Or your policy terms would change and lose the $0 deductible. It'll be far less to pay for the window replacement out of pocket than file a claim.

From a fast google search, it appears the plastic window is only $300:

Of course, check for other sources and vendors - but at this price to me the window damage doesn't rise to the level of an insurance claim. Do both windows while you're at it and eliminate all the scratches back there.
